In the Swedish dream of folkhemmet, the welfare state, the old was to be torn down and a new community was to be built from the ground up. How did this idea gel with the Sami tradition that the past is an important part of life in the present? “We can’t live in the past, but the past lives in us.” Välviljans pris is part of Rock Art in Sápmi, a major collaborative project organised by Västerbotten Museum during Umeå’s year as the Euro- pean Capital of Culture.
