White 17. Verdicchio Classico DOC Abruzzo Italy £23.95 Produced from grapes in a strictly defined “Classico” area, in the hills around the ancient town of Jesi, and packaged in the traditional amphora bottle. A delicate, fresh and fruity wine with light aromas of ripened apricot.

18. Picpoul de Pinet Domaine Reine Juliette Languedoc France £25.95 Possibly the perfect white wine for drinking with fish, this dry French classic comes from the deep South of France. 19. Gavi Il Rocchin Piemonte Italy £25.95 Piedmontese dry white made from the local Cortese grape variety. Very dry and with a zip of acidity followed by a slightly nutty finish. 20. Conte Di Alari Piemonte Italy £35.95 This wine is straw-yellow in colour with a delicate and persistent bouquet; on the nose there are floral and honey overtones; a fresh and well-structured body with a clean palate. 23. Greco di Tufo de Falco Campania Italy £35.95 Although famous in and around Naples, Greco doesn’t get out much. Deserves a bigger audience. 24. Well the experts certainly thought so in 2012 when this beauty beat all comers including the ubiquitous Cloudy Bay to win the title. Extraordinary wine. 25. Lugana D.O.C. Colli Storici Lombardia Italy £35.95 A superb white wine, produced from hand selected Lugana and Trebbiano grape, it is pale straw in colour with green highlights and a delicate bouquet of fresh fruit and almonds. 26. Jonty’s Ducks Pekin White Paarl South Africa £38.95 Aromatic white from organically grown grapes. Ducks are used for pest control in the vineyard instead of chemicals. Good with chicken, seafood and dishes with some spice. 27. Sancerre Vieilles Vignes Aristide Labaille Loire France £41.95 Vieilles Vignes means old vines and reduced yields. Here it is possible to see the effect in greater concentration and intensity. Very full bodied.

46. Barbera d’Asti Pescaja Piemonte Italy £37.95 This variety brings power, weight and terrific spiciness to the party and Beppe’s is a nice example. Full-on but balanced. 47. Aglianico Beneventano de Falco Campania Italy £39.95 Aglianico is a tough cultivar. If not carefully handled, it can over deliver on aggression and attack but while never “soft”, the Aglianico of de Falco has a smooth balance that complements rich meat dishes beautifully. 48. Rioja Gran Reserva Ruiz de Viñaspre Rioja Alavesa Spain £39.95 Several years in American oak barrels endows Gran Reserva with an appealing softness and vanilla tone. 49. Zisola Nero D’Avola Sicilia Italy £41.95 Deep purplish crimson red in colour. The bouquet is dominated by notes of tarry fruit with spice.Fleshy and juicy on the palate with fine tannins and good balance.Elegant,concentrated with good depth. 50. Preda del Falco Sagrantino Montefalco Umbria Italy £46.95 Although less well known in the UK, in Italy this wine is rightly regarded as prestigious. The Sagrantino grape lends itself to extended ageing in barrel and it’s only after years that these wines soften and mellow. This one is ready to go now and will reward the connoisseur. 51. Ripasso di Valpolicella Le Bignele Venezia Italy £46.95 Increasingly popular Venetian red made with partially dried grapes. Rich, full and with a touch of sweetness on the finish. 52. Chateauneuf-du-Pape Olivier Ravoire Rhone France £49.95 From a family producer, this is an exceptional quality Chateauneuf with red fruit and spice flavours. Wonderful with rich beef dishes or goat’s cheese. 53. Barolo Tre Ciabot Cascina Ballarin Piemonte Italy £65.95 So named as the grapes come from three (tre) vineyards of La Morra, Novello and Monforte d'Alba which are joined by a small workers house or hut called a Ciabot. With great power and complexity, this is wine on a grand scale, but the balance is fantastic. 54. Barbaresco San Giuliano Piemonte Italy £73.95 Barbaresco is treated with deserved reverence in gastronomic Italy where it is seen by many as the ultimate interpretation of the Nebbiolo variety. Giulio makes this wine and we think it is a bit special. A rare wine and currently the only listing in a restaurant in the UK. 55. Taurasi de Falco Campania Italy £76.95 Taurasi is seen by many as the pinnacle of Aglianico production. This example is made from grapes grown at 500m altitude which are hand- picked, gently pressed and fermented at a carefully controlled temperature before ageing in small oak casks. 56. Amarone della Valpolicella Le Bignele Venezia Italy £79.95 Sun dried grapes are used to make this legendary wine. The result is a rich and full red with a lingering sweetness. Beautiful. 57. Brunello Di Montalcino Rocca Della Macie Toscana Italy £95.00 Intense ruby red with garnet reflections; a complex bouquet with hints of plums, ripe black cherries and small red fruits.
