SPEAKER Dr. Martha Kanter Executive Director, College Promise Campaign & Senior Fellow, Steinhardt Institute of Culture, Education, and Human Development Dr. Martha Kanter serves as the Executive Director of the College Promise Campaign, a national, non-partisan initiative of the non-profit Civic Nation. The Campaign seeks to build broad support to guarantee a community college education for hardworking students across the country. She is the former Under Secretary of Education and was appointed by President Barack Obama on April 29, 2009, and confirmed by the Senate on June 19, 2009. In addition, she is a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Higher Education at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Dr. Kanter holds a doctorate in organization and leadership from the University of San Francisco. Her dissertation addressed demographic, institutional and assessment factors affecting access to higher education for underrepresented students in California’s community colleges. In 1994, she opened the first Advanced Technology Center in California’s community college system, and promoted local and state policies to advance Foothill-De Anza’s legacy of excellence and opportunity for California’s expanding and increasingly diverse student population. She received her master’s degree in education with a concentration in clinical psychology and public practice from Harvard University, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Brandeis University.

Utilizing the Starfish system throughout the college provides a common communication tool that assists faculty and staff in Dawna Wilson Horton, research analyst, Eastfield College working with at-risk populations and developing community partnerships to Change management is a critical aspect of leadership. This session shares address the challenges working with mental health concerns. how a group of community college administrators lead their staff through change while using data. Adopting an innovative approach to support and encourage staff while holding them accountable, presenters will share both success and opportunities.
