Technical Director: Tim Enger [email protected]

Administrative Coordinator: Dinos’ Quarterback Andrew Buckley wins two 2014 CIS Sally Ferrero [email protected] Awards. Story on page 2.

Buckley wins two CIS Awards

Andrew Buckley, star QB for the Dinosaurs, pulled off a difficult double at the 2014 CIS Awards winning both the Hec Crighton Award as the MVP of CIS Football but also the Russ Jackson Award for Outstanding Academics and Citizenship.

Buckley, a graduate of Rundle College in Calgary and 2010 Senior Bowl player, becomes the fourth Dino to www.footballalberta.ab.ca capture the Hec Crighton, following quarterback Greg Vavra (1983), receiver Don Blair (1995) and pivot Erik Glavic (2009). The Russ Jackson honour, meanwhile, is the second straight for Buckley and also the fourth for the University of Calgary after wins by Elio Geremia in 1987 and Lincoln Blumell in 2002.

The 6-foot, 201-pound Buckley was at the controls of the nation’s most potent offence in 2014, leading the Dinos to school records in points, touchdowns, and total offence – and they led the nation in all three cate- gories. They became the first team in Canada West history to break the 5,000-yard mark in total offence, adding 51 touchdowns and 419 points to their gaudy statistics totals.

Buckley was in the centre of it all. His surgical passing led to a 64.3 completion percentage, 2,175 passing yards, and 18 touchdowns through the air, and he threw fewer than any other starting quar- terback in Canada West, boasting an incredible 4.5 touchdown-to- ratio.

And just as he did it through the air, Buckley did it with his legs as well. He finished fifth in Canada West in rushing with 510 yards, averaging nearly 64 per game. His yards-per-carry average was the best in Canada at 10.6, and he ran for more yards than any other quarterback in the country this season. He also scored 10 rushing touchdowns – the second-highest total among all players in CIS. And he did it all despite having to fight for his position in training camp, where he beat out the 2012 Canada West MVP, Eric Dzwilewski, for the starting job.

Perhaps most impressively, Buckley did all that while playing the equivalent of just 6.25 games on the sea- son after the Dinos built up early leads in many of their contests en route to a 6-2 record and the No. 2 na- tional ranking for all but the final two Top 10 polls of the season.

Away from the field, Buckley is an honours student in the Faculty of Kinesiology and hopes to follow his fa- ther's footsteps into a career in orthopedic surgery following graduation. A three-time Academic All- Canadian in the classroom, he has been involved in several research studies, including one looking at a new method to reduce stiffness of the elbow joint by testing difference trial doses of a promising drug. The findings of this study were presented in 2014 at the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (Tampa, Fla.) and the Canadian Orthopaedic Association (Montreal).

Buckley has always made it a priority to give back to his school, his community, and other great causes. He volunteers with Alberta Health Services, where he is paired with two elderly Alzheimer's patients, providing companionship for three hours per week as well as relief for full-time caregivers. He embarked on a 10-day humanitarian trip to Guatemala to build efficient wood-burning stoves to replace dangerous open fires within homes.

Football Alberta 2015 Membership & Insurance Hope the New Year bodes well for everyone. In regards to membership for the 2015 year, the rates will remain the same as they have for the last 4 years. We anticipate that fees will go up next year based on budget forecasts. What will change for this year will be two levels of fees based on a deadline. Too many teams do not pay until the next calendar year and we are tired of chasing teams. In the next mid-month we will notify teams of deadlines for your league to pay for your membership and insurance dues. If payment has been made by the deadline there is no penalty. If payment has not been received by the deadline date, then there will be an additional charge added onto your fees.

Minor teams: The deadline will be set early in your season based on your registered numbers. You will not be invoiced for your initial payment deadline. It is up to each team to make your payment by the initial deadline either by credit card or check via our online registration. After your leagues final player registration deadline, send in the additional amount owing (for additional play- ers/personal added to your team). CDMFA teams…send in the amount owing based on your teams’ registration. We can send an invoice paid after we receive payment if requested. Please note that All minor teams must take out insurance.

High Schools: The deadline will be set in the early fall. We will send all high schools an invoice at that time. For teams that take our insurance, you would print off your invoice from our registration online, and make payment.

The easiest way for your team to be members and acquire insurance if required, is to make you payment as soon as you register the majority of players, coaches and personal. A smaller payment is then made after your leagues cut-off for adding players.

Plan #1 (2015 Team Membership + Player & Team Personnel Accident & Liability Insurance)

Minor / Midget Team fee of $157.50 (incl. GST) + $20.00 per person

High School Team fee of $183.75 (incl. GST) + $20.00 per person Junior/University Team fee of $183.75 (incl. GST) + $20.00 per person Senior Men/Female $20.00 per person Private Camp $20.00 per person

Flag/Touch $7.00 per person Football AB membership and insurance is valid January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015.

Teams and/or leagues on this plan need to login with their username and password to register their team at https:// footballalberta.ab.ca/members/. Delete players who will not be returning for 2015 and add any new players. Do not delete players who attend a 2015 practice/gym night or spring training camp and then do not play with the team. They need to be counted in your amount owing. Once your team is entered, payment should be made to prevent a late deadline penalty.

Plan #2 (Team Membership Only, No Insurance) High School, 6 & 9 Man, Midget, Senior Men, Female, Junior & University teams: $183.75 (incl. GST). This plan is for teams that have adequate insurance.
