PROJECT APPRAISAL DOCUMENT Rehabilitation of various streets and two local roads and procurement of special vehicles for communal enterprise August 2014 OHRID MUNICIPALITY I. PROJECT DESCRIPTION A. GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE MUNICIPALITY Ohrid municipality is one of 80 municipalities in the Republic of Macedonia and belongs to the South West planning region occupying part of Ohrid-Struga valley, Lake Ohrid and part of Galicica National Park. It borders Debarca municipality to the north, Resen municipality to the east, Struga municipality to the west and Albania to the south. Total area of 383.93km 2 comprises 204km 2 land and 179.93km 2 water. Total population is 55,749 inhabitants. The climate is continental with some Mediterranean influence coming through the mountain of Galicica. There are 18 urban communities and 26 rural communities in the city. Ohrid city and the Ohrid Lake became a world cultural and natural heritage under the protection of UNESCO since 1979. It comprises 9 municipalities: Vevcani, Debar, Debrca, Ohrid, Kicevo, Makedonski Brod, Plasnica, Struga and Centar Zupa. B. DEMOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC PROFILE According to the last 2002 Census the total number of inhabitants in the municipality is 55,749 from which male are 27,598 and female 28,151 with natural increase of 0.4%. In relation to the ethnic affiliation of the citizens, the prevailing population are Macedonians, representing 85% of the total population (see table 2). -

ECE/CEP/186 UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR EUROPE ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE REVIEWS FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA Third Review DRAFT 25 January 2019 (not edited) UNITED NATIONS New York and Geneva, 2019 1 Introduction I.1 Physical context The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is a landlocked country in the middle of the southern Balkan Peninsula. The country has a land area of 25,713 km2 and it is bordered by Serbia to the north (border length 232 km), Bulgaria to the east (165 km), Greece to the south (262 km) and Albania to the west (191 km). The physical geography is defined by the central Vardar River valley and high mountain massifs along the borders: the Dinaric range in the western and central parts of the country and the Rhodope range in the east. The average altitude of the terrain is 850 m above the sea level but more than 30 per cent of the land area is situated above 1,000 m. There are 16 mountain peaks higher than 2,000 m. The highest point is the Golem Korab peak (2,753 m) situated in the north-western part of the country on the Albanian border, while the lowest point is situated on the Vardar River (44 m). About two per cent of the land area is covered by water. The country has 35 large and small rivers, 3 natural lakes and 50 artificial lakes. The Vardar River, which bisects the entire country, passes through the capital Skopje and finally flows to the Aegean Sea is the longest and the most important river in the country. -

INTRODUCTION In the period 2016-2017 , the following activities from the Plan of activities for visibility and comunicaton of IPARD 2014-2020 were realized: 1. Update of website www.ipard.gov.mk ; 2. IPARD info events; 3. Trainings, workshops and seminars 4. Appearances on national and local radio and television stations as newspapers and Internet portals; 5. Publications of leaflets, brochure, supplements; The institutions responsible for the implementation of the abovementioned activities, respectively to their powers and the functions they perform, were the following: the Managin Authority (MA) within Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy and the Agency for Financial Support of Agriculture and Rural Development (AFSARD). II. IMPLEMENTED ACTIVITIES 5TU U5T 1. Updating the website www.ipard.gov.mk The new MA website www.ipard.gov.mk5TU U5T that was launched in July 2016 is registering great increase of visits and if in the first months the average number of visits was up to 2000, in January 2017, more than 9000 visits have been registered. In the period July 2016 –December 2017 in total 519.455 visitors on the website have been registerd. -

Introduction After the break-up of Yugoslavia, Macedonia managed to gain independence with no bloodshed. However, following the violent conflict in Kosovo in 1999, Macedonia experienced an armed conflict initiated by ethnic Albanian insurgents within its territory. Yet again, the country managed to pull ahead, and enter a new phase of Euro-Atlantic integration by becoming a candidate for EU membership in 2005. This point of reference initiated a new era in the field of migration in Macedonia. The country faced the need for a series of adjustments as the EU acquis required various legislative frameworks to be put in place including the area of migration. The Law on Foreigners and the Law on Asylum and Temporary Protection were adopted accordingly. It is important to note that this research will not enlist a full and comprehensive analysis of each article of these laws, but instead, it will focus on those articles relevant for the research and applicable to potential violations of human rights on the territory of Macedonia. -

Macedonia, [email protected] Jordan Kocevski [email protected] ABSTRACT This paper is the result of the conducted research activities in the preparing of a Sub-strategy for Cultural Tourism in the Republic of N. Macedonia in 2019 in which the author was directly involved. The research involved determining the current state of cultural tourism through situation analysis and valorization of various cultural tourism potentials. This resulted in specifying concrete spatial units and values that have the most favorable opportunities for active inclusion in the current tourism offer. Two types of spatial units were defined – existing and new areas which were zoned and mapped. Existing areas have the aim to enrich the current tourism offer in order to make them more attractive. New areas have the purpose for creating new tourism products and services that will be competitive. This paper examines the South-west Planning Region as the most developed in the country with the aim to promote cultural tourism development.
