INTRODUCTION 1. This matter concerns an incident which occurred between Brendon Santalab (the Player) and Ali Abbas (the Complainant) during the Sydney derby which took place at Allianz Stadium on 8 March 2014. 2. A complaint was lodged with the FFA on 10 March 2014 regarding an alleged racist comment by the Player. This Committee was constituted to deal with the complaint and to determine whether an offence had been committed by the Player, as alleged. 3. The Committee dealt with the complaint over two lengthy hearings, and reserved its decision. It is intended that these reasons shall be made public, and hence the specifics of the charge are not disclosed to avoid potential prejudice or harm to those involved. While this may make the reasons more difficult to follow, we believe that it remains in the public interest to expose our reasoning, to the extent possible, to avoid speculation about that.
