The bibliography was compiled by a committee of scholars from the American Studies Association to stimulate interest in interdisciplinary courses in American culture. The Bibliography of American Culture, 1493-1875 was compiled and edited by David R. Weimer and published by University Microfilms in 1957. Most of the materials listed which were published before 1800 are included in American Culture Series I which is available as a separate package of 26 microfilm reels. The present series is constituted of more than 5 ,000 books and pamphlets in the humanities, social sciences, and natural and physical sciences which are not accessible in most libraries. Most of the works are in English and most were written by Americans and published in the United States. Many items in the bibliography which were reprinted or revised after 1900 are not included in the microfilm series. This guide to the film describes reels 359-510 or series years 11-15. Two earlier guides cover years 1-5 and 6-10. The series is released on 35mm positive microfilm in series year segments of 100,000 pages each. The film is not received in order as it is in the bibliography or all at once; each series year contains items from throughout the bibliography. The reel guide material and titles on the film are arranged each series year as they are in the bibliography, that is by 22 main categories and their sub divisions. Entries in this guide give reel number, author, title, imprint, code indicating library owning the original, and notes on the film.
