Russian Sunrise, Extremely Well Written and Highly Interesting, Is Truly a “Novel of Faith and Hope” As Mentioned on the Book’S Front Cover is novel presents Russia in a positive light. Yes, Russia needs consecration and resulting conversion so that it loses its status as God’s chosen instrument of punishment of the wicked world; but when this is realized, Russia will become an example for all the other nations and an instrument of bringing about a true Christian peace. – Michal Semin St. Joseph Institute Prague, Czech Republic Russian Sunrise, extremely well written and highly interesting, is truly a “novel of faith and hope” as mentioned on the book’s front cover. It o ers one very plausible scenario of how the Consecration of Russia can possibly and very practically take place, followed by its very positive e ects realized in the nation of Russia and with promise of major bene ts accruing to the world in the near future. Providing a very engaging and entertaining story, more importantly this book identi es what Russia could realistically look like following (and directly as a result of) the Consecration of Russia – becoming a truly Catholic Confessional State instead of the secular totalitarian state it currently is. Sparing no details, the author then de nes exactly and in many speci cs what this actually means for most aspects of Russian life, including in terms of: politics, economics, nance, commerce, education, healthcare, law, culture, etc. I read the entire 400-page book in one week, o en staying up very late at night, unable to put this captivating novel down. – Andrew M. Russian Sunrise Cover.indd 1-3 7/18/2011 3:18:15 PM About the Author Bruce W. Walters, M.D. is a practicing psychiatrist and former columnist for Latin Mass Magazine. In the 1990s Dr. Walters and his wife adopted a son in Russia, and since then he has been a close student of both modern Russian history and the message of Our Lady of Fatima. At the “Consecration Now!” Conference on Fatima held in Rome, Italy in May 2011, he described “How the Consecration of Russia Could Be Done Soon” and introduced his new novel, Russian Sunrise. During his high school years in Battle Creek, Michigan, Dr. Walters studied classical organ, built a pipe organ, won first place in an organists’ competition at Western Michigan University, and toured northern Europe as a tenor in the award-winning Battle Creek Central High School A Cappella Choir. After completing his B.A. in English Literature at Western Michigan University and working for several years in bank management, he completed medical school at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, with clinical studies in Kalamazoo and Pittsburgh. It was during medical school that he became an adult convert to the Catholic Faith. Following internship at West Virginia University Hospital and psychiatric residency at the Donahue Mental Health Institute in Oklahoma, he became CEO and Medical Director of Central Oklahoma Community Mental Health Center, practiced privately at several Oklahoma City area hospitals, and served as a Catholic parish organist. Dr. Walters was awarded the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, given at the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting, 1993. He returned to Michigan in 1994, where he is Psychiatrist and Medical Director for the Ottawa County Community Mental Health system and for Livingston County Catholic Charities. In 2006 Dr. Walters and his wife, a family physician, co-founded St. Luke Hometown Healthcare in Brighton, Michigan, a third-party-free Catholic clinic designed to the needs of those caught in the health insurance affordability crisis. Dr. Walters is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Michigan Psychiatric Society, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, the Catholic Medical Association and the Michigan State Medical Society. He sings tenor in the Latin Mass Choir at Assumption Grotto Church in Detroit, where Gregorian chant and the great polyphonic classics of Catholic Christendom are performed with pipe organ each Sunday during a High Tridentine Mass, and with orchestra on several high feast days each year. Northern Italy was composed of independent duchies and city-states that were part of the Holy Roman Empire; the Papal States of central Italy were ruled by the Pope; and southern Italy had been ruled as an independent Kingdom since the Norman conquest of 1059. The language, culture, and government of each region developed independently so the idea of a united Italy did not gain popularity until the 19th century, after the Napoleonic Wars wreaked havoc on the traditional order.     The Wave of the Future: A Reply to Archbishop Weakland by Michael Davies Fall 1997 Issue Latin Mass Magazine [Michael Davies is president of the International Una Voce Federation and the author of many books and pamphlets on the Church and on the liturgy, including the three- volume Liturgical Revolution.] The cover article in the June 7-14 issue of the Jesuit journal America contained the good news that Archbishop Rembert Weakland is upset. Anything that upsets this Archbishop is good news for every Catholic with a true sensus Catholicus, a sense of what being a Catholic really means. Archbishop Weakland is upset because the liturgical renewal upon which, as a "bishop in the trenches," he had set such hope, has been "totally derailed." He admits that "after the Council abuses arose throughout the Church," but insists that these "all too frequent 'abuses' were, however, the product of zeal and exuberance, not of bad will." He also insists, tautologically: "I can honestly and truthfully say that the aberrations that arose in the late sixties from excessive zeal and exuberance had begun to run their course and to disappear by the early eighties." "The essentials of good liturgy," he continues, "were being emphasized and the needed sense of the sacred was being established. I had hoped that such a trend could be continued so that by the end of the 1980s we would be able to experience the effects of a true renewal." The renewal that the Archbishop had expected was, he lamented, "totally derailed" and his hopes were "shattered." He has no problem in locating the reason for the derailment.

    ABSTRACT ONE MAN’S STRUGGLE: PIUS IX AND THE CHANGE IN PAPAL AUTHORITY IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY Andrew Paul Dinovo This thesis examines papal authority in the nineteenth century in three sections. The first examines papal issues within the world at large, specifically those that focus on the role of the Church within the political state. The second section concentrates on the authority of Pius IX on the Italian peninsula in the mid-nineteenth century. The third and final section of the thesis focuses on the inevitable loss of the Papal States within the context of the Vatican Council of 1869-1870. Select papal encyclicals from 1859 to 1871 and the official documents of the Vatican Council of 1869-1870 are examined in light of their relevance to the change in the nature of papal authority. Supplementing these changes is a variety of seminal secondary sources from noted papal scholars. Ultimately, this thesis reveals that this change in papal authority became a point of contention within the Church in the twentieth century.     he collection of essays presented in “Devotional Cross-Roads: Practicing Love of God in Medieval Gaul, Jerusalem, and Saxony” investigates test case witnesses of TChristian devotion and patronage from Late Antiquity to the Late Middle Ages, set in and between the Eastern and Western Mediterranean, as well as Gaul and the regions north of the Alps. Devotional practice and love of God refer to people – mostly from the lay and religious elite –, ideas, copies of texts, images, and material objects, such as relics and reliquaries. The wide geographic borders and time span are used here to illustrate a broad picture composed around questions of worship, identity, reli- gious affiliation and gender. None of us knew that in the following weeks and months, life as we knew it—the world as we knew it—would change irrevocably. In many ways the destruction of our previous life is complete; and yet, a phoenix has risen from those ashes of our former existence. At the same time that global lockdowns built up walls to separate and “distance” us, InterNations broke down the walls of geography and brought us together in a new, online community. Our calendars, suddenly empty deserts devoid of commutes, office hours, and in-person socializing, instead offered us a new-found wealth of time, time we used to develop untapped talents and unexpected potentials. The microfiction works contained in this collection are the fruit of these creative explorations. Over the course of 2020 dozens of InterNations members set pen to paper, many for the first time ever, and crafted mini-works around given themes and key words. With limits on length ranging from 250-350 words, together we discovered that writing was something of which we are all capable. We particularly applaud those who bravely shared pieces composed in languages other than their mother tongue.
