Characterizing Perceptions of Wildlife Poisoning and Protected Area Management in the Douro International Natural Park
UNIVERSIDADE DE LISBOA FACULDADE DE CIÊNCIAS INSTITUTO DE CIÊNCIAS SOCIAIS INSTITUTO DE EDUCAÇÃO Characterizing perceptions of wildlife poisoning and protected area management in the Douro International Natural Park Morgan Rhys Dennis Mano Casal Ribeiro MESTRADO EM CULTURA CIENTÍFICA E DIVULGAÇÃO DAS CIÊNCIAS Dissertação orientada pela Profª. Doutora Ana Delicado 2021 [Page intentionally left blank] ii iii [Page intentionally left blank] iv Acknowledgements I would first like to offer my gratitude to the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and the LIFE Rupis project (LIFE 14/NATPT/000855 Rupis) for supporting my fieldwork, and granting me the opportunity to conduct my dissertation. I further extend these thanks to the amazing people working at the Transhumance and Nature Association (ATNatureza) and Palombar, for their hospitality and support during my fieldwork in the Douro. A special thanks is owed to my supervisor, Professor Ana Delicado. As this was my first ever academic venture outside of biology, throughout this degree she helped me delve into the foreign realm of social sciences. They have somehow become my main interest, and what started as a gap year venture I suspect will now define my future in conservation – I owe this in great part to her. I considerably appreciate the assistance and advice of Julieta Costa, her attentiveness throughout my research, and kind patience awaiting its completing. It took longer than expected, but I sincerely hope it will serve its purpose and aid in future work. To my friends and colleagues Andreia Cadilhe and Guilherme Silva, who agreed to accompany me during the interview process and eased the workload, I am truly grateful. -

Upon graduating from Arundel High School in 1982, Sykes continued her education at Hampton University, a historically black institution in Hampton, Virginia, and earned a degree in marketing there in 1986. She immediately secured a job as a procurement officer for the National Security Agency (NSA) but quickly realized that her career did not lie in a government office. In 1987 she went on stage for the first time, doing a stand-up routine in a talent contest in Washington. Although she did not win, "a light went on" and she saw her destiny. That her second outing was a complete failure made her understand that pursuing a career in entertainment would be challenging, but, she stated, "It gave me a sense of how much I wanted to do it." While developing her skills at stand-up on nights and weekends, Sykes retained her job at the NSA until 1992, when she moved to New York to work on the comedy circuit there. -

New Beginnings and Jenny Sullivan Present Jane Anderson's Food And
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Michael Berton October 17, 2019 Phone: (805) 963‐7777 x112 Email: [email protected] New Beginnings and Jenny Sullivan Present Jane Anderson’s Food and Shelter at the New Vic (SANTA BARBARA, CALIF.) – New Beginnings’ 50th anniversary celebration comes to an end this fall with a one‐night production of Food and Shelter by Jane Anderson at the New Vic on November 1st. As a leading provider of mental health, veteran and homeless services in Santa Barbara County, New Beginnings is proud to present the fanciful but heartrending story of a homeless family who spends the night at Disneyland. “Often we encounter community members who want to better understand how emotional instability, unemployment and poverty lead to homelessness,” shares Executive Director Kristine Schwarz. “So we have focused this past year on providing experiential opportunities that can give people a sense of what causes housing insecurity and what it feels like to be homeless, as well as on motivating them to think about how we can work together as a community to prevent and address it. Moreover, our hope is that Food and Shelter will enable people to understand the issue in systemic terms, while also considering the range of types of homelessness.” The production stars Joe Spano (NCIS, Apollo 13, NYPD Blue and Fracture), Eric Lange (Victorious, Lost, Narcos and The Bridge), Chris Butler (Designated Survivor, Rescue Dawn, The Good Wife, and King & Maxwell), and Faline England (9‐1‐1, The Mentalist, Station 19, and Valentine’s Day). Screenwriter Jane Anderson is an Emmy award‐winning writer and director whose many credits include The Wife, Olive Kitteridge, How to Make an American Quilt, Looking for Normal, It Could Happen to You, The Baby Dance, If These Walls Could Talk II, and The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader Murdering Mom, for which Jane received an Emmy, Penn Award, and Writers Guild Award for best teleplay. -
