C'e' Chi Dice Miller, C'e' Chi Sogna Fill
E io te li faccio subito: nell’ordine Bode Miller, Peter Fill e Aksel Lund Svindal”. E Reichelt? “Sì lo so, qui ha vinto l’anno scorso, ma tu vuoi sapere i primi tre e io te li ho detti. Comunque appena giù dal podio c’è lui, facciamo quarto, e Guay quinto”. E tu? “Non è mai bello parlare di se stessi. Io sto bene, sono in forma e non importa se domani arrivo decimo, quindicesimo o terzo. Nello sci bisogna essere anche fortunati. Specie su questa pista che non ti permette di sbagliare mai. -

Ganong's Colt Mows Down Them All in Santa Caterina
! ! GANONG’S COLT MOWS DOWN THEM ALL IN SANTA CATERINA VALFURVA by Claudio Pea A success for the American who comes from the lake dear to Kit Carson and lives with Michelle Marie Gagnon – Another fantastic podium for Dominik Paris, the fourth of the season. And now it’s a second place in the DH World Cup – Second place for the Olympic champion Matthias Mayer – A change in the start because of the strong wind damages Christof Innerhofer – Eleventh place for Peter Fill, who has got fever SANTA CATERINA VALFURVA, DECEMBER 28TH - There is always someone who – for a few hundredth of a second – spoils Dominik Paris’ party. This time those “someone” are an American who comes from the town of Kit Carson, the legendary pioneer of the far west, and the number one of the Austrians, the Olympic DH champion in Sochi, Matthias Mayer. Travis Ganong, the winner of the Santa Caterina Valfurva Downhill World Cup lives with his Canadian girlfriend Marie Michelle Gagnon (she is a specialist of technical World Cup races) on Lake Tahoe, on the border between California and Nevada. Before today’s exploit he was on the podium only once, third place in the Kvitfjell DH, last year. However, for better or worse – and perhaps taking advantage of the long absence of Svindal and Guay due to injury – he is always one of the top DH 7. He grew up in the legendary Squaw Valley ski area, the home of the 1960 Winter Games and was a freeskier before dedicating to alpine skiing. “I love my mountains and the beautiful lake, and of course Marie Michelle. -

Erik Guay Becomes Oldest World Champion in Alpine Skiing History
Erik Guay becomes oldest world champion in Alpine skiing history Associated PressFeb 8, 2017, 7:38 AM EST ST. MORITZ, Switzerland (AP) — Erik Guay led the veteran Canadians over the favored Norwegians in the super-G on Wednesday and became the oldest gold medalist at the world ski championships. The 35-year-old Guay beat Olympic super-G champion Kjetil Jansrud by 0.45 seconds – his first victory in almost three years. Guay triumphed less than two weeks after a spectacular crash, when he flew 60 meters (yards) in the air off a jump in a treacherous World Cup downhill. “It’s incredible. I’m as happy as can be,” said Guay, putting his win down to “forgetting about everything and having a fun race.” It was a banner day for Canada after Norway seemed sure to also take bronze in an event it dominates. But late-starting Manny Osborne-Paradis edged World Cup champion Aleksander Aamodt Kilde off the podium. On his 33rd birthday, Osborne-Paradis claimed his first career championship medal, trailing Guay by 0.51. He was serenaded by a finish-area crowd, and later was hugged by his mother. Guay added super-G gold to his downhill title from the 2011 worlds in Garmisch- Partenkirchen. It was at the same German course last month that he wiped out in a twisting fall. “I was lucky to walk away with fairly minor injuries,” said Guay, competing at his seventh worlds. “I can see (the crash) on TV no problem, but in my head I can’t really remember going off the jump and having that fear.” There were more jumps to handle Wednesday on a hill that launched racers airborne, testing their balance and ability to improvise through an unfamiliar gate-setting.
