Edwin is originally from Guatemala and now is a popular dance instructor & performer in the Hudson Valley and New York City. Edwin created this hip hop dance in 2004 for Red Hook Elementary students through a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Barb has continued to teach this hip hop dance throughout various years including this current year in an after school program at the Mill Road Elementary School in Red Hook, NY.

Hip Hop dance has been developed from various people and events since the 1960’s. The styles of hip hop dance are many including uprock, breaking, locking, roboting, boogaloo and popping. In the 1990’s hip hop social dancing emerged. Now many popular dances have emerged, some include the Cupid Shuffle, Cha-Cha Slide, Boom Boom Pow.
