Dominican Monastery Huissen

Welcome in the Dominican Monastery Huissen. We will do our best to make your stay a pleasant one.

The monastery is located in Huissen (part of ), a small town just south of (eastern part of The ). Eight Dominican priests live in the monastery which also contains an activity centre. The centre is a non-profit educational institution in the field of faith and society issues. In addition it is also possible for organisations and companies to hire conference rooms for meetings.

In the building you will occasionally find the word "Communiteit" signposted. The community's private rooms are to be found there. We kindly ask you not to enter these facilities. If you’re interested you’re invited to participate in their daily prayers. The times are: Lauds 08.00 a.m. Vespers 06.30 p.m. On Sundays Holy Communion at 10.00 a.m. The Monastery Chapel is accessible via the cloister.

House Regulations 1. Silence is requested in the rooms and corridors after 11.00 p.m. so that others may rest undisturbed. Of course you can continue your conversation, it is just that we kindly ask you to respect other people’s rest.

2. On your arrival you will be shown your room by a host or hostess. Showers/toilets are located in the hallway. Beds or bedclothes may not be taken into other rooms. Rooms should be vacated at 10.00 a.m. on the day of departure, so that they may be prepared for other guests. The key to your bedroom is also the key to enter the building (entrance).

3. Mealtimes are as follows (other times may be arranged in consultation with your organization): 08.30 a.m. breakfast 12.30 p.m. lunch 05.30 p.m. evening meal. It is not possible for groups to prepare their own meals in the centre. Due to hygienic regulations, the kitchen is accessible only to personnel.

4. Coffee and tea will be regularly available.

5. Drinks are available in the evening. Please sign for the drinks you have taken and pay for them before departure. Or we can put it on your invoice afterwards.

6. Conference rooms will be allocated to you on arrival. You may use them at any time during your stay. Please leave the rooms in the orderly state in which you found them. 7. The reception is open from 08.30 a.m. till 8.00 p.m., on Saturdays from 9.00 a.m. till 14.30 p.m., on Sundays usually between 9.00 a.m. and 11.00 a.m. Small change and postcards etcetera are available here. A photocopier is available.

8. Domestic pets may not be kept.

9. Smoking is not allowed inside the building (there is a special smoking area outside).

10. The centre cannot accept any responsibility for damages, as for example the loss of guests' personal property.

11. Only in cases of emergency (and during night time) you can dial number 450; you can use the telephone in your conference room.

12. Free wireless internet is available in the entire building.

13. Exceptions with regard to House Regulations are laid down by the House Direction.

How to get there By train/bus: The nearest train station is located in Arnhem. But coming from the south, you can also travel to . From both train stations regular buses travel to Huissen (four times per hour). From Arnhem bus line 33 and bus line 300 (buses to Nijmegen). From Nijmegen bus line 33 and bus line 300 (buses to Arnhem). In both cases, choose bus stop Stadswal Rabobank Huissen (ask driver). From the bus stop it is a 7 minute walk to the monastery (Stadsdam 1).
