Musica Iagellonica 2017 ISSN 1233–9679 Kateřina Maýrová (Czech Museum of Music, Prague) The motets of Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli in the Rokycany Music Collection This work provides a global survey on the Italian music repertoire contained in the music collection that is preserved in the Roman-Catholic parish of Roky- cany, a town located near Pilsen in West-Bohemia, with a special regard to the polychoral repertoire of the composers Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli and their influence on Bohemian cori-spezzati compositions. The mutual comparison of the Italian and Bohemian polychoral repertoire comprises also a basic compara- tion with the most important music collections preserved in the area of the so- called historical Hungarian Lands (today’s Slovakia), e.g. the Bardejov [Bart- feld / Bártfa] (BMC) and the Levoča [Leutschau / Löcse] Music Collections. From a music-historical point of view, the Rokycany Music Collection (RMC) of musical prints and manuscripts stemming from the second half of the 16th to the first third of the 17th centuries represents a very interesting complex of music sources. They were originally the property of the Rokycany litterati brotherhood. With regard to human interest in fossils, trilobites may rank second only to dinosaurs. Having studied trilobites most of my life, the English version of The Back to the Past Museum Guide to TRILOBITES by Enrico Bonino and Carlo Kier is a pleasant treat. I am captivated by the abundant color images of more than 600 diverse species of trilobites, mostly from the authors’ own collections. Carlo Kier The Back to the Past Museum Guide to Specimens amply represent famous trilobite localities around the world and typify forms from most of the Enrico Bonino Enrico 250-million-year history of trilobites. Numerous specimens are masterpieces of modern professional preparation. Richard A. Robison Professor Emeritus University of Kansas TRILOBITES Enrico Bonino was born in the Province of Bergamo in 1966 and received his degree in Geology from the Depart- ment of Earth Sciences at the University of Genoa. He currently lives in Belgium where he works as a cartographer specialized in the use of satellite imaging and geographic information systems (GIS). His proficiency in the use of digital-image processing, a healthy dose of artistic talent, and a good knowledge of desktop publishing software have provided him with the skills he needed to create graphics, including dozens of posters and illustrations, for all of the displays at the Back to the Past Museum in Cancún. In addition to his passion for trilobites, Enrico is particularly inter- TRILOBITES ested in the life forms that developed during the Precambrian. Carlo Kier was born in Milan in 1961. He holds a degree in law and is currently the director of the Azul Hotel chain. -

Cottage Grove. MN 55016; Abstract—Trilobites represent an extinct group of Paleozoic marine invertebrate fossils that have great scientific interest and public appeal. Trilobites exhibit wide taxonomic diversity and are contained within nine orders of the Class Trilobita. A wealth of scientific literature exists regarding trilobites, their morphology, biostratigraphy, indicators of paleoenvironments, behavior, and other research themes. An inventory of National Park Service areas reveals that fossilized remains of trilobites are documented from within at least 33 NPS units, including Death Valley National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve. More than 120 trilobite hototype specimens are known from National Park Service areas. INTRODUCTION Of the 262 National Park Service areas identified with paleontological resources, 33 of those units have documented trilobite fossils (Fig. 1). More than 120 holotype specimens of trilobites have been found within National Park Service (NPS) units. Once thriving during the Paleozoic Era (between ~520 and 250 million years ago) and becoming extinct at the end of the Permian Period, trilobites were prone to fossilization due to their hard exoskeletons and the sedimentary marine environments they inhabited. While parks such as Death Valley National Park and Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve have reported a great abundance of fossilized trilobites, many other national parks also contain a diverse trilobite fauna. -

V tzv. projektech pracují studenti od t řetího semestru bakalá řského studia, kdy nejprve dostávají zadanou skupinovou práci ze zvolené problematiky, na níž následn ě navazuje zadání práce bakalá řské; ve svém projektu mohou studenti pokra čovat i po celou dobu magisterského studia. Za 20 let existence fakulty se tento zp ůsob vzd ělávání student ů osv ědčil v magisterském i bakalá řském studiu – pomáhá student ům u čit se p ři práci odpov ědnosti nejen za sebe, ale i za navazující úkoly druhých. Je zpravidla branou pro kontakt studenta s praxí a odráží se i na kvalit ě záv ěre čných prací. V zá ří 2014 prob ěhly státní záv ěre čné zkoušky oboru Dopravní systémy a technika. Celkem tuto zkoušku skládalo p řes 50 student ů, p řed komisi pro železni ční infrastrukturu a provoz p ředstoupilo 20 student ů. Mezi dvacítkou prací zam ěř ených na kolejovou či ve řejnou dopravu se jen t ěžko komisi vybírala díla nejlepší, nebo ť většina d ěl p řekvapila svou úrovní i obhajobou. Nakonec komise po diskusi ud ělila návrh na ud ělení pochvaly d ěkana za kvalitní zpracování bakalá řské práce u t řetiny prací. -

Further distribution or reproduction in any format is prohibited without the permission of the copyright holder. ABSTRACT Trilobites from the Ludlow and Přídolí of England and Wales are described. A total of 15 families; 36 genera and 53 species are documented herein, including a new genus and seventeen new species; fourteen of which remain under open nomenclature. Most of the trilobites in the British late Silurian are restricted to the shelf, and predominantly occur in the Elton, Bringewood, Leintwardine, and Whitcliffe groups of Wales and the Welsh Borderland. The Elton to Whitcliffe groups represent a shallowing upwards sequence overall; each is characterised by a distinct lithofacies and fauna. The trilobites and brachiopods of the Coldwell Formation of the Lake District Basin are documented, and are comparable with faunas in the Swedish Colonus Shale and the Mottled Mudstones of North Wales. Ludlow trilobite associations, containing commonly co-occurring trilobite taxa, are defined for each palaeoenvironment. -
