Senior Curator / Curator – the Munch Museum

Edvard Munch’s art is ’s most important contribution to international art history. As custodian of a major part of Munch’s works as well as of the Stenersen Collection, the Munch Museum is in a unique national and international position. Its responsibility is to promote the legacy of (1863–1944) through conservation, research and dissemination, and to be visible and relevant in society through exhibitions based on Munch’s art, Modernism and contemporary art. The Munch Museum is an agency within the City of .

The Munch Museum opened its doors at Tøyen in Oslo in May 1963, one hundred years after Edvard Munch’s birth. A new museum building is currently being constructed at Bjørvika in Oslo’s harbour area, which will open to the public in 2020. Exhibition space will be more than quadrupled and the activity level will be vastly increased. In addition to Edvard Munch’s art, the Museum will show modern art based on the Stenersen Collection as well as contemporary art. We are looking for a Curator/Senior Curator with specialisation within modern art from the 19th and 20th centuries, secondary with expertise and interest in art on paper (prints and drawings). Edvard Munch was a pioneer not least as a graphic artist, and the Museum has a comprehensive and nearly complete collection of his prints, in addition to drawings and sketchbooks. We are searching for a professional with experience within the fields of exhibition curating, research and collection management.

Duties will include Developing exhibition projects with special emphasis on Modernism and Edvard Munch’s art Managing the Museum’s collections with special emphasis on Munch’s drawings and printed works Conducting research Writing articles for publication in exhibition catalogues and scholarly journals Dissemination to the public and media

Professional qualifications Minimum: Master level education in art history, with specialization within 19th and 20th century modern art. Experience from art museum or other art institution. Experience as an exhibition curator Ideally: PhD in art history or Senior Curator competence approved by NMF, and secondary specialized competence within art on paper.
