The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) is now seeking an experienced and resilient nursing professional leader as its District Deputy Director of Nursing to support the Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery’s role across the region.

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) provides health services for the residents of the Illawarra Shoalhaven region, including the , Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven Local Government Areas. ISLHD operates eight hospital sites in Wollongong, Port Kembla, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven, Berry, Coledale, Bulli, Milton Ulladulla and community health services operating from approximately 58 locations across the region.

Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals and is the region’s tertiary referral hospital, with the capacity to treat specialist and complex cases. Wollongong’s Emergency Department is one of the busiest in with around 70,000 presentations each year. Wollongong Hospital

The Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community- based services.

Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals and is the region’s tertiary referral hospital, which means it has the capacity to treat specialist and complex cases. Shellharbour Hospital

Shellharbour hospital is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis and adolescent and adult mental health services on site. It is an accredited health care facility with the Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS) and is recognised as providing a high standard of care to the community.

Shellharbour Hospital is a 197-bed facility providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services. The inpatient services include aged care, medical, surgical, mental health and acute medical assessment inpatient beds, plus a Day surgery Unit.

The operating suite performs mainly low risk general, laparoscopic, gynaecological, ophthalmic, dental and minor orthopaedic surgery.

Outpatients services include: Infectious Diseases Clinic, Dental, Renal, Pre admission and anaesthetic, Cardiology Clinic (including stress testing), Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy Clinic, Speech Pathology, Respiratory Clinic, General Surgery Clinic, Antenatal Clinic, Geriatric Clinic, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Asthma Clinic, Plastics Clinic, Diabetes Clinic.

Shoalhaven Hospital

Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services.

The Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit.

The hospital is networked with other hospitals in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District and is affiliated with the University of Wollongong, supporting the training of Nursing, Medical and Allied Health staff.

Port Kembla Hospital

Port Kembla Hospital is a specialist referral hospital for Rehabilitation, Aged Care and Palliative Care which provides care to almost eight thousand patients every year.

Port Kembla provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient, and community services as well as an occupational rehabilitation unit. Other services based at Port Kembla include a Sexual Health Clinic, Drug & Alcohol service, Illawarra Brain Injury Service (IBIS), Health Care Interpreter Service and the Hillview Childcare Service.

Port Kembla Hospital is closely affiliated with the University of Wollongong and TAFE, supporting all health- related disciplines.

Bulli Hospital and Aged Care Centre

Bulli Hospital and Aged Care Centre opened in August 2020. It has been designed and specifically tailored to meet the needs of the district’s growing, ageing population.

The facility provides inpatient, outpatient, and allied health services, as well as the Urgent Care Centre.

Coledale Hospital Coledale Hospital specialises in rehabilitation and aged care services for the northern Illawarra. It has a purpose-built unit for patients with a dementia illness awaiting nursing home placement.

POSITION PURPOSE

The District Deputy Director of Nursing is to provide high-level support to the ISLHD Executive Director, Nursing, and Midwifery & Clinical Governance (EDNMCG). The position will be responsible for planning, and governance in strengthening of district wide nursing and midwifery workforce initiatives and efficiencies.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The District Deputy Director of Nursing Key Accountabilities are:

• Support the District in the effective maintenance, enhancement, and evaluation of ISLHD workforce strategies with particular emphasis on demand profiles, skill mix and compliance with industrial Awards. • Develop strategies that ensure the sustainability of NHPPD compliance. • Lead role in implementing transformational review of the structure, role clarity and accountability of senior clinical nursing roles such as the clinical nurse/midwifery consultants. • Assists the EDNMCG to co-ordinate and ensure that Nurse and Midwifery strategy funded programs are progressed within the district. • Assists the EDNMCG to provide leadership, advise, support and management on contemporary nursing and midwifery alternate models of care. • Assists the EDNMCG to provide expert advice in relation to Workforce Development & Design. • Provide lead role for the district in respect of district and state workforce and recruitment strategies and initiatives.

Challenges / Problem Solving • Effective time and function management against competing demands. • Maintaining and supporting the nursing & midwifery focus within changes in delivery of healthcare. • Management of complex nursing & midwifery challenges in a constantly changing healthcare environment.

The District Deputy Director of Nursing will demonstrate skill and knowledge in the following criteria:

1. Registered nurse/midwife with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (APRHA). 2. EMPLOYMENT TERMS & CONDITIONS

REMUNERATION $156,911.40 to $159,243.78 per Annum + 10% Superannuation.

Salary Packaging enables employees to access certain fringe benefits as tax exempt to a grossed-up value of $17,000 or a net value of $9,009.

In addition, staff are able to add extra pre-tax earnings into their superannuation fund through salary sacrificing.
