jazz William O. Smith (Bill), composer, clarinettist and teacher, was born in 1926, in Sacramento, U.S.A. In his teens he was already playing in a symphony orchestra as well as his own jazz ensemble. He later studied at the Juilliard School of Music and then with Darius Milhaud. Whilst still a student he met Dave Brubeck and was a founder member of the Dave Brubeck Octet and has been associated with him ever since. For his compositions he was to receive many accolades, including the Prix de Rome. He is one of the first to combine modern jazz with classical compositional techniques.

   SARAH WILLIAMSON clarinet As concerto finalist in the BBC Young Musician competition, Sarah Williamson gave a highly    individual performance of the Copland Clarinet Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra  conducted by Andrew Davis. She then went  on to study at the Paris Conservatoire with 

Pascal Moraguès. Classic FM Magazine selected Sarah as “Hot Property” and in  BBC Music Magazine she was chosen as a “Rising Star”. Nowadays Sarah’s busy performance schedule takes her across the UK and abroad. She has given concerto performances with, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, City of   London Sinfonia and many more. Abroad, recent tours have included the  Middle East and Japan. A champion of new music, Sarah has commissioned  several new works for clarinet for which première performances have included  Wigmore and Cadogan Halls.
