DESCRIPTION

This grouping of newspapers and scrapbooks consists of issues of noteworthy events in Arizona and national history that were preserved. Events range from outbreak of war, Great Depression events, election of Franklin Roosevelt, economic news, and activities of national and state political individuals. Additional papers highlight various world’s fairs and expositions in American’s cities including the New York Worlds Fair of 1939, Golden Gate Exposition of 1939, San Diego World’s Fair of 1935, and the 1934 Century of Progress World’s Fair. Six scrapbooks highlight events and activities in the Tucson area from 1955 to 1964. Many articles feature Tucson improvements and changes including construction of new buildings, zoning regulations, sale of commercial buildings, the changing Tucson population statistics, changes to downtown areas of Tucson, and street paving and improvements.
