LIBERTO’s SEEDS AND BULBS WILD COLLECTIONS 2017/2018 Here is a selection of seeds sustainably selected in the wild, always taking into account to minimize disturbing wild populations and in most cases collected in small quantities of different individuals in order to increase variation. Please scroll to the end of the catalog for sowing and ordering instructions. Listings in orange color, are limited in quantity. Acantholimon ulicinum, Tymfristos, 1500 to 2000m, 2018. 5€/30seeds This is a dense, spiny, mat forming species with pink flowers sitting just above the foliage on very short stems followed by beautiful papery seeds. Growing on screes or as a chasmophyte. Acanthus greuterianus, Pindos, 700m, 2018. 5€/5seeds I am super excited to collect this beautiful yellow flowered small Acanthus that was described about 10 years ago from northern Greece. It runs a bit, but the late summer flowers and spiny leaves will reward you anyways. Acer monspessulanum, Taygetus, 1200m, 2018. 4€/20seeds An evergreen species (actually drops the leaves in late winter/early spring before the new set comes out) that creates a beautiful large shrub or small tree in time. Achillea ageratifolia, Olympus, around 1500m, 2015. 3€/20seeds Small, dissected grey leaves and white daisy-like flowerheads on 10-20sm stems. Achillea holosericea, Tymfristos, 1500m, 2017. 4€/30seeds Greyish green dissected woolly foliage and 20cm stems of intense yellow flowerheads. Alyssum murale (probably), Smokovo, 700m, 2018. 3€/20seeds I always enjoy the yellow clouds that this species creates when it flowers in early summer. It grows up to 1m high. Alyssum sp., Metsovo, 800m, 2018. 4€/20seeds Haven’t seen it in flower but it created 40cm high bushes with grey leaves that were attractive even out of flower. Alyssum sp., Paggaion, 1600m, 2018. 4€/20seeds An upright growing species with very small dark green leaves and big panicles of yellow flowers. About 30cm high in flower. Androcymbium rechingeri, Eastern Crete, sea level, 2017. 8€/20seeds Rare bulb growing on gravelly, sandy soil. Shiny deep green leaves and white flowers with darker markings. Anthyllis aurea, Paggaion, 1850m, 2018. 4€/20seeds A well-known Balkan alpine plant, with intense yellow flowers in clusters, that turn to orange with age, all summer long. Anthyllis hermanniae, Geraneia, 400m, 2018. 3.5€/20seeds A shrubby low elevations species, perfect for a dry garden as it is very drought tolerant, that transforms itself to a yellow globe when in flower in spring. Both very hardy. Asperula boissieri, Tymfristos, 1850m, 2018. 5€/20seeds A very small alpine species with dark pink flowers in midsummer. Needs perfect drainage and limestone. Some claim that the plants on this mountain are actually A.nitida and not A.boissieri. Whatever it is, it´s beautiful! Asperula lutea ssp. rigidula yellow/green form, Kithaironas, 700m, 2017. 5€/20seeds Mat forming with a height of up to 20cms and tiny light-yellow greenish flowers in the summer. Should not be tried in areas where it can turn invasive. Asphodelus albus, Vitsi, 1200m, 2018. 3.5€/20seeds A beautiful species especially when massed, with Eremurus like white flower spikes in late spring/early summer. Very cold hardy compared to other species found in Greece. Asphodelus fistulosus, Hymettus, 200m, 2015. Much smaller than the above, this has grassy foliage and shorter spikes of around 50cm. Not recommended for regions where it may be invasive. 3€/20seeds Astragalus angustifolius, Lefka Ori, Crete, 1200m, 2015. Forming tight spiny shrublets that get covered in late spring with white flowers. 5€/20seeds Astragalus sp., Rhodes, sea level, 2018. 5€/20seeds When I collected it this species had mat forming stems with velvety leaves and fluffy seedpods. I believe this is the endemic A.austroaegeus. Astragalus sp., Rhodes, 500m, 2018. 4€/20seeds From higher elevations, this had more tight clumps of highly attractive grey leaves, obviously very drought tolerant (as everything on the island!). It might well be the more common A.spruneri. Astragalus sp., Ziria, 1200m, 2017. Extremely spiny shrublets with cluster of pink flowers at the end of the stems. Campanula aizoon, Giona, 2000m, 2018. 8€/50seeds A rare endemic species of a few mountains in Central Greece, with monocarpic rosettes of leaves that lead to branched spikes of purple flowers. Growing on limestone scree and as a chasmophyte. Campanula celsii ssp. parnesia, Parnitha, 900m, 2015. 4€/50seeds Another monocarpic Campanula of the celsii group. The 2 or 3 year old rosette of spatulate grey leaves explodes into a carpet of stems covered by purple flowers when it has enough energy to flower. This should do a bit better in higher altitudes or colder climates compared to the one below.
