VETERAN LEADERSHIP The BIG EAST is a league led by veterans this year as seven of the top 10 scorers are seniors and 19 of the top 20 are juniors or seniors. Compared with the top eight Division I conferences (ACC, Pac-12, Big 12, Big Ten, SEC, BIG EAST, MAC, WCC), the BIG EAST has the most seniors in their top 10 of scoring and the only league to have its entire top 10 comprised of juniors and seniors. Seven of the BIG EAST’s top 10 scorers have multiple national postseason appearances under their belts. Junior Shadeen Samuels of Seton Hall is the BIG EAST’s top scorer after 22 total games at 19.0 points per contest, while Marquette senior Natisha Hiedeman leads in conference play with a 22.1 per game clip. The BIG EAST has 15 1,000-point scorers, including 2,000-point scorer Allazia Blockton of Marquette, and MU’s Erika Davenport will look to become the second BIG EAST player to reach 1,000 career rebounds, joining Butler’s Tori Schickel who BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS broke the program’s career standard last week.
