DETROIT (AP/AFRTS)---The United Auto Workers Union announced last night it will strike Gen- eral Motors at midnight tonight if new con- tracts with the big three auto makers are not reached by then. However, Ford and Chrysler will remain oper- ating. The decision followed a meeting by the un- ion's international executive board. The un- ion had previously announced it would not strike Ford but would strike either GM or Chrysler, or both, if contract agreements were not reached by the deadline. UAW President Leonard Woodcock said Chrys- ler had indicated it is not a "free agent." He said it would be exploitation of Chrys- ler employes to strike there when GM holds the final answer. ,MEN LEAP TO SAFETY AS BOAT page 2 k Guantanamo aauf* Monday, September 14, 1970 Arab Guerrilla Groups Conndemn Destruction CAIRO (AP/AFRTS)-- The blowing up of three airliners by Arab guerrillas has drawn strong condemnation from the over-all command of Chilean President Makes Claims guerrilla groups seeking to subdue Israel. DETROIT (AP/AF-TS)--A vice-president of General Motors rhartes that the United Auto Workers Union "was pointing for a strike against General Mbtors from the outset" of contract negotiations. The accusation follows an annoonnrment by the union that GM will be the lone strike target if a new con- tract agreement is not reached by midnight today. GM's Vice-President in Charge of Labor Rel- ationsEprl Bramblett also says that the union "is holding to its mountain of original dem- ands" Fnd indicated that 'he chances of a strike-avr7-inct settlement are slim.
