Box 05-005, Baabda , Lebanon Tel/Fax: 169-9-510590; 169-9515501 [email protected] www.transparency-lebanon.org The Lebanese Transparency Association PO Box 05 005 Baabda, Lebanon Telephone +169 9 510590 • Fax +169 9 515501 www.transparency-lebanon.org LEBANESE TRANSPARENCY ASSOCIATION Introduction Corporate social responsibility (CSR) at its best practice can be defined as the overall management process that accompanies all the efforts of an organization within the limits of a certain ethical conduct. CSR starts internally within the organization as a set of beliefs and values of all the human resource. In such a case the organization will naturally communicate those ethical values through: 1. Personal interaction level (Meetings, promotions, events, media gatherings) 2. Corporate communications (press releases, webpage, print communications, product labels, advertising campaigns, brand building strategies, corporate logo) In effect and as illustrated in Fig 1, these communicated beliefs will result in added trust towards the organizations’ overall image and will potentially increase business and sustain development in the long run. In the ideal case, CSR is conducted as part of and adapted to the business strategy and vision, which is normally defined by the top management. According to the St. Galler Management Concept (University of St. Gallen, Bleicher 1991), these principles should be realized by the strategical and operational management levels. The whole strategy is therefore conducted by the whole company and becomes a part of the company’s identity. To act socially responsible and to integrate CSR in a businesses’ strategy has eventually the aim of increasing sales revenues and achieving profits, as opposed to purely philanthropic actions.

  • Confirmation
CONFIRMATION December 1, 2020 Dear Parents and Students, You have elected to register your son/daughter for the St. Agnes Christian Formation program this year. When registering your son/daughter it is stated that our Confirmation program is a two-year program. This program challenges him or her to grow in his or her understanding of the Catholic faith and his or her personal relationship with God. There are several points to make you aware of in preparation for Confirmation (which starts in 8th grade with the student receiving the Sacrament with the completion of 9th grade studies) (due to pandemic this school year completion of 10th grade)). Successful completion of the curriculum includes once a month catechesis, service to others, and spending time with God in prayer. The greatest form of prayer is the celebration of the Mass. As Catholics, we are encouraged to attend weekly Mass in order to recognize God’s love more fully in the Word and Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. While the pandemic poses a particular challenge at this time, students and their families are highly encouraged to either attend weekly Mass in person (Precautions are in place to ensure everyone’s safety) or to seek out an online Mass to encourage growth in love for Christ in preparation for Confirmation. Below is a list of other expectations. Remember, these “assignments” are designed to support our students in their desire to know, love, and serve our wonderful God while helping to prepare them for the reception of the Sacrament. This process for being Confirmed in the Spirit is a commitment from the parish, support from parents, and a commitment from the student that wishes to be Confirmed.

  • Political Laws and Ethnic Accommodation: Why Cross-Ethnic Coalitions Have Failed to Institutionalize in Afghanistan
Political Laws and Ethnic Accommodation: Why Cross-Ethnic Coalitions Have Failed to Institutionalize in Afghanistan Mohammad Bashir Mobasher A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Washington 2017 Reading Committee: Robert Pekannen, Chair Jonathan Eddy, Co-Chair James Long Scott Radnitz Leigh Anderson Program Authorized to Offer Degree: School of Law © Copyright 2017 Mohammad Bashir Mobasher University of Washington ABSTRACT Political Laws and Ethnic Accommodation: Why Cross-Ethnic Coalitions Have Failed to Institutionalize in Afghanistan Mohammad Bashir Mobasher Chairs of the Supervisory Committee: Professor Robert Pekannen – Jackson School of International Studies Professor Jonathan Eddy – School of Law Afghanistan suffers from an ethnic-based and fragmented party system. Although some cross-ethnic coalitions have emerged, especially during the presidential elections, these coalitions have failed to survive across elections and branches of government. As for what explains the failure of the consolidation of coalitions, some scholars pointed to the SNTV system and others to the presidential system. This study examines all related institutional designs, including the SNTV system for parliamentary elections, the runoff system for presidential elections, the presidential system, dual vice presidency, and party qualification thresholds. These systems and institutions are designed by three bodies of political laws: the Constitution, electoral laws, and party laws. Analyzing these laws and institutional designs, this study makes three observations. First, the failure of coalitions to institutionalize in Afghanistan is not due to a single political law or institutional design but due to the influence of a number of them. Second, for cross-ethnic coalitions to institutionalize, all related institutional designs must act cohesively or else they fail to incentivize coalition-building, as is the case in Afghanistan.

  • Geo-Visualization Tools for Participatory Urban Planning the Case of Tripoli, Lebanon
KARTOGRAPHISCHE BAUSTEINE BAND 35 DRESDEN 2007 Remarks on the cover The cover illustration combines two different types of imagery. The first one forms the background: it is a geocoded mosaic of three QuickBird scenes of Tripoli acquired on 26 January 2003, 8 April 2003 and 2 July 2003. This is overlaid by four photographs depicting typical scenes of the city centre of Tripoli. From East to West they display the following sites: waste on the both sides of the main river (Abu Ali River); street-vendors at the entrance to the old souk; daily traffic jam in the old city; disused houses in the old city waiting for a renovation since the end of the Civil War in 1990. i Note: More than one month after the beginning of the disastrous summer 2006 war in Lebanon I submit my thesis with the hope that it will be the last conflict in my country, the country which is known for its multicultural and multireligious structure. I hope that by the conclusion of my work Lebanon will have peace and peace for ever.
