T.S. Please open your or use a Bible in the pew rack and turn to Matthew 26:17-29 and see how Jesus had with his disciples into the Lord’s Supper.

Text: Matthew 26:17-29

1. The Lord’s Supper is a time to look back.

A. The Israelites:

• At Passover the Jews look back to Egypt and how God delivered them from their 430 years of Egyptian bondage (Exodus 12:40).

• They took a lamb, killed it, and put on the doorposts and lintel of their doors (Exodus 12:22).

• At midnight God passed through the land and struck all the first born except those with blood on the doorposts (Exodus 12:12-13).

• B. Christians: At the Lord’s Supper, Christians look back to the cross (:27-35).

Application: When you hold the bread and cup tonight, look back at the cross and recall and respect what did for you.

2. The Lord’s Supper is a time to look up.

• The lambs at Passover, without spot or blemish, point to Jesus.

says, “For Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed” (1 Corinth 5:7).

Application: When you hold the bread and cup tonight, don’t look at a grave. He is not there. Look up. He is risen!!

3. The Lord’s Supper is a time to look within.

• The Bible says, let a man examine himself…” (I Cor. 11:23-28a).

• There are four questions that will help you examine yourself.

1. Is the Lamb in you? The Passover lambs were eaten (Exodus 12:46). Is Christ in you?

2. Is the Lamb satisfying you? (:10)

3. Has the Lamb changed you? (2 Cor. 5:17)

4. Is there any sin of which the Lamb is convicting you? If so, don’t eat in an unworthy manner. (1 Cor. 11:29)
