DIGITAL PHOTO ASSESSMENT PROPOSAL

For this assignment, you will propose a media-based assessment approach that you can use in a lesson or unit you currently teach as part of your curriculum.

Instructions

  1. Reflect on the different ways in which students can use digital photos to create products that demonstrate mastery of content and technology standards.
  2. Think of a lesson/unit for which you could assign your students the task of creating a digitalphotoproduct that will be used to assess their performance. (Note: We encourage you to use a lesson or unit that you are already teaching, but for which you are using a more traditional assessment approach now).

About the Lesson/Unit

/ This lesson is for Developmental Language Arts ELL students who are learning about the Rain Forest.

/ 7th Grade
  1. Write a very brief summary or overview of the lesson or unit.
/ The students will be going to the Dreher Park Zoo in order to build background knowledge about the rain forest.

About the Proposed Assessment Approach

  1. What digital photo product will your students create? (describe briefly)
/ My students will be using I photo to show what kind of animals and their habitats that they learned about in the zoo.

/
  • The students will be assessed according to how many animals that they have pictures of and the clarity and color of the pictures. Also the quality of information that they include.

  • Students will be assed according to a rubric.

  • Students will do a peer evaluation as the slide shows are presented to the class.

/ The teacher is able to see what the student has learned. The teacher will be able to assess the students as the I photo slide shows are being presented.
  1. What possible challenges should the teacher plan for when using digital photoassessment products in this lesson/unit? (list)
/ The teacher needs to be aware of the technology limitations such as equipment failures, frustrations that students might have with computer especially if the students have limited computer knowledge.
  1. What does the student gain from creating digital photoproducts as part of the assessment for this lesson/unit? (list)
/ The student has a finished product that they can show to their families. The students are learning and absorbing the information while learning how to use the computers.
