TO: Parents and Students FROM: Sandra Hunter, Principal RE: School Dress Policy Date: August 25, 2014

Greetings and Welcome to Clemmons Middle School!

As we begin an exciting new school year at Clemmons Middle, I would like to remind returning students and parents about our dress code policy and inform our new students of our policy. It is important that our parents and students understand our expectations for student attire during the 2014/2015 school year. Our dress code is designed to encourage a safe and positive educational environment for all students and teachers.

 All shorts and skirts must not be more than the length of a $1.00 bill above the knee.  All shirts, blouses, and t-shirts must cover the upper torso completely including the stomach and shoulders. (no spaghetti straps, tank tops, halter tops, or tube tops) The width of a $1.00 bill may be used to determine if straps are wide enough  Skinny Jeans/Leggings may be worn, but must have a shirt/top that meets the $1.00 bill rule.  No sagging pants.  All clothing should be of material that is not transparent, see-through, or mesh.  Words on clothing should not distract others, offend any group or culture, or encourage inappropriate behavior.  All headgear (hats, sweatbands, scarves, and bandanas) must be removed upon entering the school building. Reasonable accommodations on the basis of a student’s religious beliefs or medical conditions will be made.  Please see the student handbook for more information on our dress code.

Please assist us by monitoring your child’s attire before they leave home. If any student should arrive at school in violation of this dress code, you will be called to either bring your child a different set of clothes or to pick up your child to take home to change into appropriate attire. Thank you for your support and your partnership in offering the best education possible for your child.
