ISAIAH, Pt 2 Lesson 5

Who Has Believed Our Report?

HeavensWillPass Away

Hebrews 1:10-12
10And, “You, Lord, in the beginninglaid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the works of Your hands;11They will perish, but You remain; And they all will becomeoldlike a garment,12And like a mantle You will roll them up; Like a garment they will also be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end.”

2 Peter 3:10-13
10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.11Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,12looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!13But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

Romans 10:1-15
1Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation.2For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge.3For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.5For Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law shall live by that righteousness.6But the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who willascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down),7or ‘Who will descend into theabyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).”8But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,9that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;10for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.11For the Scripture says, “Whoeverbelieves in Him will not be disappointed.”12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;13for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”14How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?15How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “Howbeautiful are the feet of thosewho bringgoodnews of goodthings!”

Prepare for Isaiah 52-53

Mark 15
1Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole Council, immediately held a consultation; and binding Jesus, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate.2Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And He answered him, “It is as you say.”3The chief priests began to accuse Him harshly.4Then Pilate questioned Him again, saying, “Do You not answer? See how many charges they bring against You!”5But Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate was amazed.6Now at the feast he used to release for them any one prisoner whom they requested.7The man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection.8The crowd went up and began asking him todo as he had been accustomed to do for them.9Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”10For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.11But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead.12Answering again, Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?”13They shouted back, “Crucify Him!”14But Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify Him!”15Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.16The soldiers took Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they called together the whole Roman cohort.17They dressed Him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on Him;18and they began to acclaim Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”19They kept beating His head with a reed, and spitting on Him, and kneeling and bowing before Him.20After they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him.21They pressed into service a passer-by coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), to bear His cross.22Then they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.23They tried to give Him wine mixed with myrrh; but He did not take it.24And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them to decide what each man should take.25It was the third hour when they crucified Him.26The inscription of the charge against Him read, “THE KING OF THE JEWS.”27They crucified two robbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left.28[And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with transgressors.”]29Those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who aregoing to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,30save Yourself, and come down from the cross!”31In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, “He saved others; He cannot save Himself.32“Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.33When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour.34At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lamasabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”35When some of the bystanders heard it, they began saying, “Behold, He is calling for Elijah.”36Someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, “Let us see whether Elijah will come to take Him down.”37And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.38And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.39When the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”40There were also some women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses, and Salome.41When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and minister to Him; and there were many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.42When evening had already come, because it was the preparation day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,43Joseph of Arimathea came, a prominent member of the Council, who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God; and he gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.44Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was already dead.45And ascertaining this from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.46Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.47Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were looking on to see where He was laid.

Psalm 22:1-21
1For the choir director; upon Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning.2O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest.3Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.4In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You delivered them.5To You they cried out and were delivered; In You they trusted and were not disappointed.6But I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by the people.7All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying,8“Commit yourself to the Lord; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”9Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.10Upon You I was cast from birth; You have been my God from my mother’s womb.11Be not far from me, for trouble is near; For there is none to help.12Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.13They open wide their mouth at me, As a ravening and a roaring lion.14I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me.15My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death.16For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.17I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;18They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots.19But You, O Lord, be not far off; O You my help, hasten to my assistance.20Deliver my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog.21Save me from the lion’s mouth; From the horns of the wild oxen You answer me.

Isaiah 52

Hebrews 1:3-4
3And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,4having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

Philippians 2:5-11
5Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,6who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,7but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.8Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.9For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,10so that at the name of Jesus everyknee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,11and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Romans 15:15-21
15But I have written very boldly to you on some points so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God,16to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.17Therefore in Christ Jesus I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God.18For I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed,19in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit; so that from Jerusalem and round about as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.20And thus I aspired to preach the gospel, not where Christ was already named, so that I would not build on another man’s foundation;21but as it is written, “They whohadnonews of Him shall see, And they who have not heard shall understand.”

Isaiah 53

John 12:36-41
36“While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light.” These things Jesus spoke, and He went away and hid Himself from them.37But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him.38This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”39For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again,40“He has blinded their eyes and Hehardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes and perceive with their heart, andbe converted and I heal them.”41These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him.

Romans 10:14-16
14How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?15How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “Howbeautiful are the feet of thosewho bringgoodnews of goodthings!”16However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed ourreport?”

Matthew 8:14-17
14When Jesus came into Peter’s home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever.15He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and waited on Him.16When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill.17This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “He Himselftook our infirmities and carriedaway our diseases.”

1 Peter 2:24
24and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

2 Corinthians 5:21
21He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Acts 8:26-40
26But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, “Get up and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is a desert road.)27So he got up and went; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship,28and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.29Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot.”30Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”31And he said, “Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.32Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: “He was led as a sheep to slaughter; And as a lambbefore its shearer is silent, So He does not open His mouth.33“In humiliation His judgment was takenaway; Who will relate Hisgeneration? For His life is removed from the earth.”34The eunuch answered Philip and said, “Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?”35Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him.36As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?”37[And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”]38And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him.39When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing.40But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.

Daniel 9:26
26“Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.
