COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to provide the necessary skills and training for an entry level position in the field of Web Design. The class will focus on web page planning, basic design, layout, and construction (effective and ineffective), setup and maintenance of a web site, HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, and various web page and image creation tools.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

You will learn the basics of web design principles, digital media options, web design language (HTML), Internet uses and processes, design considerations, the impact of target market demographics, deliverables, and multiple software packages. Courses such as this can provide the skills and motivation for you to successfully complete college programs in one of several business areas. The primary purpose of this type of multi-media graphics education is to provide instruction for and about e-commerce and Internet communications through the use of Web Page Design.

ATTENDANCE/MAKEUP WORK

Students are expected to be in class everyday on time. For each day your child has an excused absence, your child is allowed one school day to make the classwork. However, in my class most of their work will be in class (due to the technology). Therefore I will allow work to be done during lunch or before school.

Any unexcused absence , your child will lose 5% of the total points each day it is late.

GRADING

Grades are calculated on a weighted scale

Assignments: 30%

Quizzes: 20%

Test/Projects 30%

Final: 20%

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

·  Any student caught copying, plagiarizing, or cheating from another student or resource will receive a zero for the assignment. Please refer to your Student-Parent Handbook for implications of further cheating incidences.

·  Students should handle equipment and computers with respect and care at all times. Any student observed to be handling equipment irresponsibly will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action and may result in a loss of equipment privileges and a penalty towards his/her assignment grade.

·  Computers are only to be used for Web Design/Coding assignments. Students are not permitted to use computers for other assignments, personal use, or games. Exceptions to this rule (i.e. checking e-mail to access information relevant to class assignments) must be granted permission from the instructor prior to such usage.

·  All Internet websites and resources must be school-appropriate. Students should use proper judgment when accessing online content.

·  Any student who signs out school equipment for out-of-class usage (i.e. borrowing a camcorder to work on projects at home) is solely responsible for any damage, theft, or loss that occurs to equipment during that time. Equipment may only be borrowed on an overnight (or weekend) basis and must be returned to the classroom the following school day. Failure to return equipment on time will result in a per-diem grade penalty for the particular assignment. Prolonged failure to return equipment (i.e. longer than one week) will be dealt with through the administrative office.

·  Students will treat each other, the instructor, substitute teachers, and school property with respect. Misbehavior for a substitute will result in a detention and grade penalty, or depending on the circumstances, further disciplinary action from the instructor or administrative office.

·  Any incidences of computer hacking/sabotage or theft of school property will be dealt with swiftly and severely through the administrative office.
