ADMISSION POLICY

A.  Admission procedure

To join Tomsk Polytechnic University prospective student should:

1.  Fill in on-line application form on http://www.iie.tpu.ru/en/2_application.php

2.  Send the copy of international passport and copy ofeducational document of appropriate level (see B. Section of the Policy) in English or in Russian to an admission officer by e-mail:

3.  Wait for 2 weeks for the official answer about his/her admission to the University.

4.  Transfer application fee of 55 EURO (non-refundable) to the University bank account and send the copy of bank receipt to the admission officer by e-mail.

5.  Wait for the Visa Support Letter and Official Letter of Admission within 1 month after approval and send your contact information to the admission officer (postal address and phone number). It is possible to get the Visa Support Letter and Official Letter of Admission via express-post (as a rule a student pays for it on delivery).

6.  Apply for a student visa and legalize your educational documents in a proper way.

7.  Buy ticket and send to the admission officer information about travel route a week before your arrival (flight number, arrival time, etc.) to get the University pick-up service.

8.  Upon arrival to the University campus submit all the necessary educational documents, legalized in a proper way (see B. Section of the Policy), international passport, 12 recent photos (black and white matt, 3 x 4), original medical certificate, which proves he/she has negative test results for AIDS within the last 30 days, certificate of health.

9.  Sign the contract and pay the tuition fee for the first academic year (at the discretion of the University) (refundable) to the University bank account.

An application will not be considered by the Admission Office until it is deemed complete (i.e. receipt of all the necessary transcripts, supporting documents and fees)

B.  Educational documents for admission and requirements to the documents submitted

Pre-University Course/ Pre-Master’s Course/ Pre-Ph.D. course (1 academic year)

To enter the university an applicant should submit the following documents by fax or e-mail:

Pre-University Course:

1. The copy of the Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

2. The copy of international passport.

Pre-Master’s Course:

1. The copy of the Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript: list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

2. The copy of the Bachelor’s Degree (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

3. The copy of international passport.

Pre-PhD Course:

1. The copy of the Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

2. The copy of the Master Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

3. The copy of international passport.

On arrival to the University an applicant shall submit the following documents:

Pre-University course:

1. Original of the Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) legalized in a proper way[1].

2. 1 copy of the legalized Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript), translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary. It is recommended to translate and notarize documents in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in your country. Note that spelling of a name in the translated documents should agree with one in the entrance visa.

Pre-Master’s course:

1. Original of the Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) legalized in a proper way.

2. 1 copy of the legalized Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript), translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary. It is recommended to translate and notarize documents in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in your country. Note that spelling of a name in the translated documents should agree with one in the entrance visa.

3. Original of the Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) legalized in a proper way.

4. 1 copy of the legalized Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript), translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary.

Pre-Ph.D. course:

1. Original of the Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) legalized in a proper way.

2. 1 copy of the legalized Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript), translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary. It is recommended to translate and notarize documents in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in your country. Note that spelling of a name in the translated documents should agree with one in the entrance visa.

3. Original of the Master Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) legalized in a proper way.

4. 1 copy of the legalized Master Degree Certificate (including academic transcript) translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary.

Bachelor’s Degree (4 academic years) /

Specialist Program (5 academic years)

To enter the university an applicant shall submit the following documents by fax or e-mail:

1. The copy of the Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

2. The copy of international passport.

3. Documentary proof of the Russian/English language proficiency (if any).

Upon arrival to the University an applicant shall submit the following documents:

1. Original of the Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) legalized in a proper way.

2. 1 copy of the legalized Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript), translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary. It is recommended to translate and notarize documents in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in your country. Note that spelling of a name in the translated documents should agree with one in the entrance visa.

3. Documentary proof of the Russian/English language proficiency (if any).

4. Successful results of entrance tests (the English/Russian language and major subjects proficiency).

5. Certificate of recognition and equivalency determination, issued by the Federal Service for Supervision in the fields of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Master’s Degree Program (2 academic years)

To enter the university an applicant shall submit the following documents by fax or e-mail:

1. The copy of the Education Certificate that verifies the Secondary School level (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

2. The copy of the Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

3. The copy of international passport.

4. Documentary proof of the Russian/English language proficiency (if any).

4. 1 copy of the legalized Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript), translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary.

5. Documentary proof of the Russian/English language proficiency (if any).

6. Successful results of entrance tests (English/ Russian and interdisciplinary exam).

7. Certificate of recognition and equivalency determination, issued by the Federal Service for Supervision in the fields of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Doctoral Degree Programs (3-4 academic years)

To enter the university an applicant shall submit the following documents by fax or e-mail:

1. The copy of the Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

2. The copy of the Master Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) in English or Russian.

3. The copy of international passport;

4. Documentary proof of the Russian/English language proficiency (if any).

Upon arrival to the University an applicant shall submit the following documents:

1. Original of the Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) legalized in a proper way.

2. 1 copy of the legalized Bachelor Degree Certificate (including academic transcript), translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary. 3. Original of the Master Degree Certificate (including academic transcript: the list of subjects studied and scores earned) legalized in a proper way.

4. 1 copy of the legalized Master Degree Certificate (including academic transcript) translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary.

5. Documentary proof of the Russian/English language proficiency (if any).

6. Successful results of entrance tests (English/ Russian and major subject proficiency).

7. Certificate of recognition and equivalency determination, issued by the Federal Service for Supervision in the fields of Education and Science of the Russian Federation*.

*DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR OBTAINING CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION AND EQUIVALENCY DETERMINATION

1.  Application for educational documents examination with the purpose of recognition.

2.  Confirmation of the fact that an applicant indeed studied at an educational institution in the period of time indicated in the document, issued by the educational institution where the previous education was obtained.

3.  Original of the educational documents (including the list of training courses, academic transcripts with the list of subjects studied, practical trainings, term papers, and final research works) legalized in a proper way.

4.  1 copy of the legalized educational documents (including academic transcript), translated into Russian and certified by a Russian notary. It is recommended to translate and notarize documents in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in your country. Note that spelling of a name in the translated documents should agree with one in the entrance visa.

5.  Copy of international passport and visa.

A student should submit the whole set of documents to the Federal Service for Supervision in the fields of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. The Federal Service may require any additional educational documents (information about previous education; detailed information about the program taken etc.). The procedure is chargeable.

An applicant may be given the Certificate or an official refusal to issue the Certificate on the campus of TPU.

[1] Depending on the country issued educational documents either a Consular Legalization or an Apostille is set. A student is responsible for validity and legality of all the documents and data submitted to the University. During the first year of study he/she is obliged to pass through the procedure of evaluation of his/her educational documents (chargeable) to determine the equivalence of his/her national educational documents to Russian education standards and get the Certificate.
