Summer Recommended Reading Assignment

English II

Summer Recommended Reading Assignment

Below is a Recommended Reading List for rising sophomores. It is strongly encouraged that all students participate in summer reading by choosing at least one of the titles from the list below to read over the course of the summer. During the first two weeks of the 2014-2015 school year, students will be given the opportunity to earn extra points in English II by taking and passing a Moodle-based quiz covering the content of one novel. These points can then be banked and added to an existing score during the first calendar nine weeks.

The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho
The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan
My Forbidden Face, Latifa
The Secret Life of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd

Code Talker, Joseph Bruchac

These book selections can be found at the local library or through online booksellers.

In addition, students are highly encouraged to read newspapers, such as The Orlando Sentinel; USA Today; and The Miami Herald; and periodicals, such as Time and Newsweek, to not only increase their knowledge of current events, but also to reinforce their reading comprehension skills.

Start out the new school year right—read over the summer!

Sincerely,

Lake Minneola High School
