Principal’s Letter to Year 12 Students, Parents and Guardians.

SUBJECT: End of Year Schooling Procedures for Year 12.

Dear Student and Parent/Guardian,

The reason for this letter is to provide you with relevant and important information pertaining to end of year procedures affecting all Year 12 students.

End of Formal Lessons:

Formal lessons for Year 12 students at Maclean High School will cease on Tuesday, 15th September.
Students are required to attend all scheduled lessons up to this point in time.
It is important that all students complete their academic year in the most appropriate manner.
Now is a time when great maturity is required to handle the rigours of preparation for a major credential such as the H.S.C.
Students are not to be at school for any reason other than to attend formal lessons. Any breaches of school policy may result in one/all of the following:

Student being requested to leave the premises.
Student denied attendance at Graduation Assembly.
Student denied attendance at Graduation Dinner.

I cannot stress enough the importance of finishing off almost 13 years of education and hard work in a positive manner that sets a good example for other younger students and reinforces the good standing of Maclean High School students within our community.

Year 12 Mystery Tour:

In addition to formal proceedings and requirements, as a fun way for students to celebrate the completion of their formal schooling, the school will be running a Mystery Tour for Year 12 on Wednesday, 16th September. At approximately 8am students will depart on coaches for a mystery destination for a day of fun and games. Students will not know the destination for the day and so will need to bring appropriate clothing and items for

a range of activities. They may like to choose a theme for the day. Students will need to bring a hat, sun screen, swimmers and a towel as they may be involved in ‘water activities’ on the day. They should wear appropriate shoes for sporting activities. Students are not to bring any food (other than snacks) and drink as all food and drink will be provided. Any other equipment required will be supplied by the school. All students will be required to travel on the buses, no private transport is permitted. Students will return to school between 4pm and 4.30pm. Ms Barron (as Year Adviser) and Mr Sutton (as Deputy Principal) will be accompanying the students. Year 12 students will be able to nominate four other teachers they would most like to join them on the day. There will be no cost to students for any part of the day. All food/drink, bus travel, activities and venue entry will be provided by the school. In order for this activity to be a success and to be cost effective for the school we will need the participation and support of all Year 12 students. The permission note attached must be returned to the Ms Barron, no later than Wednesday, 9th September.

School Fees:

A considerable number of Year 12 students still have outstanding fees due to be paid to the school. Some of these fees are compulsory subject fees. It is expected that these fees will be paid by the end of Term 3 prior to formal clearance. Over the years the school has provided much curricular and extra-curricular support to Year 12 students. It is fitting that the school not be out of pocket as a result of providing a thorough educational service.

Lockers:

Students with lockers are to clean them out by Monday 14th September and return their locker keys to the Front Office by Tuesday 15th September.

Graduation Breakfast/Assembly:

A Graduation breakfast for students and staff will take place from 8am in the Food Technology Courtyard on Thursday 17h September prior to the Graduation Assembly.

The Graduation Assembly is scheduled for Thursday 17h September, commencing at 9.30am in the Main School Quadrangle.
Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend this Farewell Assembly.
This is the last formal occasion for all Year 12 students at the school.
Students are expected to wear normal school uniform. Any student experiencing difficulty in meeting this requirement should seek assistance from Mr Perl/Ms Barron prior to the day to avoid disappointment.

Stuvac:

The Stuvac (Study Vacation) this year commences on Friday, 18th September.
Students are welcome to visit their teachers during Stuvac to iron out any last minute problems, provided they are dressed in a neat and tidy manner.

The Higher School Certificate Examination:

Examinations will be held in the Jim Thompson Pavilion in the Maclean Showground and the Seventh Day Adventist Hall in Church Street, Maclean.
The Presiding Officer employed by the Board of Studies to administer the external exams is Ms Karen Carragher.
Exams commence on Monday 12th October at 10am.

From Monday, 12th October until Wednesday 21stOctober at Jim Thompson Pavilion.

From Thursday, 22ndOctober until Wednesday 4thNovember at the Seventh Day Adventist Hall, Church Street, Maclean.

It is most important for all students to be in attendance at least 15 minutes before a scheduled examination. This will necessitate a careful check of the H.S.C. Examination Timetable produced by the Board of Studies and distributed to all students.
If a student is unable to attend an examination because of sickness or misadventure they shouldimmediately advise the Principal.
If a student is sick during the course of an examination they should bring this to the attention of the Presiding Officer during the examination.
Students are required to dress in neat, comfortable clothing for the exams. The venues are not air-conditioned.

Illness or Misadventure Appeals:

In cases of illness or misadventure the appropriate form is available from the Presiding Officer and/or the Principal.
Students should complete the details including page 1 and Section A and return the form together with any medical or other documentation to:

(a) the Presiding Officer, if the appeal relates to a written examination;

(b) the Class Teacher, if the appeal relates to an oral/aural or a practical examination.

The closing date for appeals relating to oral/aural or practical examinations is ONE week after the examination.
The closing date for appeals relating to written examinations is Thursday, 5th November.

Higher School Certificate Assessments:

Students will be able to view and print their HSC Assessment Rank Order notices through Students Online, Board of Studies.
Students who wish to seek a review of any of their H.S.C. assessment rankings must apply to the Principal in writing. The reasons for such a review should be clearly stated.

Clearance from the School:

All students are required to complete a formal clearance from the school immediately after they complete their last examination.
These forms should be returned to the Front Office only when all relevant staff have signed the clearance, all textbooks have been returned and any outstanding fees paid. This should be done by Monday, 30th November.

11. Year 12 Graduation Dinner: (A closed function).

Venue:Yamba Bowling Club Auditorium.

Date:Thursday, 17th September.

Time:6.00pm till 11.00pm.

Cost:$35.00 per person.

Who Attends:

Year 12 students.

Parents of Year 12 students.

Maclean High School Staff and Spouse/Partner. Unfortunately, Year 12 students are not able to bring siblings or extended family, due to restrictions on space at the venue.

Admittance by ticket only. Students are asked to view the seating plan at the Front Office to select a table before purchasing tickets.

Year 12 students who wish to invite a special guest after formal graduation dinner and proceedings (around 9pm) must purchase a ticket from Front Office at a cost $10.00 per person. As this is a senior function junior students will not be permitted.

Dress:Semi-Formal.

Bookings:Tickets can be purchased at Maclean High School Front Office by

Tuesday 8th September. Please advise of any special dietary requests.

No tickets will be available until the completion of the final trial exam.

This is an alcohol free event. No alcohol will be served in, or will be able to be brought into theauditorium or consumed by attendees during the event.
Department of Education and Communities Policy states that:
1.4.2 The consumption of alcohol is not permitted at any school function (including those conducted outside
school premises) at any time when school students, from any school, are present. A school function is
any function organised by the school and/or in the name of the school and applies to all types of
functions including dances, farewells, sporting fixtures and barbecues.

Presentation Night:

Will be held at Yamba Bowling Club on Thursday 3rdDecember commencing at 7pm.
Year 12 students who are to receive an award are expected to attend and are required to wear school uniform.
Year 12 students who are to receive an award at Presentation Night and are unable to attend are required to personally contact Mrs Tania Kane by phoning the school on 6645 2244..

References:

References are being prepared for all students who have requested one.
To request a reference you must complete the standard form with aspects of your participation in school activities highlighted.
A reference will only be issued once formal clearance (textbooks, library, outstanding fees, lockers, etc) has been completed.
References will need to be picked up personally from the school.
