Tom Alexander Chief Operating Officer 1871 Technology Incubator

Tom Alexander is chief operating officer for 1871, one of the largest technology incubators in the . His role includes operation of a facility that houses hundreds of startups, business development efforts focused on integrating 1871 into the Chicago technology economy, and external relations efforts with government and media partners.

Previously, Alexander served as deputy communications director for Mayor and played a leading role on the Mayor’s economic council, working to attract and retain companies and jobs to Chicago. Prior to his time in the Mayor’s office, he served as a senior communications director at the University of Chicago, a policy and communications projects director in the Office of the Governor of Illinois, and a senior disaster analyst for the U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington, DC. He has also worked as a newspaper reporter, editor of an online business publication, adjunct professor of journalism, and was founder of a small sports newspaper.

Sue Ansel President and Chief Executive Officer Gables Residential

Sue Ansel is President and Chief Executive Officer. In her 25 plus years with Gables, she has held positions in acquisitions, development, and operations and has led important company initiatives including the advancement of real estate technology efforts and third-party client services. Sue serves on several boards and committee’s including serving as an officer and on the Executive Committee of the National Multifamily Housing Council, and officer of The Real Estate Council and The Real Estate Council Foundation Board of Directors, The Dallas Summer Musical Board of Directors and DePauw University’s Board of Trustees. David Axelrod CNN Senior Political Commentator and Director, Institute of Politics, University of Chicago

David Axelrod served as senior advisor to President and to the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition, as well as senior strategist to Barack Obama's historic campaign for the presidency in 2008 and his reelection in 2012. Today he serves as director of the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago and as a senior political commentator for CNN. He formerly served as a senior political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC. He was recently inducted into The American Association of Political Consultants’ Hall of Fame. His New York Times bestselling memoir, BELIEVER: My Forty Years in Politics (February, 2015), spans forty years which include corruption and transformation, turmoil and progress, offering a look behind the closed doors of politics while offering a thrilling call to democratic action. This powerful and inspiring memoir is enlivened by the charm and candor of one of the greatest political strategists in recent American history. He is currently host of "The Axe Files", a series of interviews with key figures in the political world. Doug Bibby President National Multifamily Housing Council

Douglas M. Bibby is President of the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC), a national organization of more than 1,100 member firms involved in the multifamily housing industry. Under his leadership NMHC represents the industry on Capitol Hill and before the regulatory agencies, promotes research and the exchange of information, and advocates for rental housing across a broad spectrum of issues. Prior to joining NMHC, Bibby spent 16 years as a senior officer of Fannie Mae, where he served on the company’s Management Committee throughout his tenure. He was part of the top management team that is credited with the remarkable turnaround at Fannie Mae in the book Good to Great.

Bibby began his career with the worldwide communications firm J. Walter Thompson where he served a variety of clients both domestically and internationally over his 12-year career with the company. At the time of his departure from J. Walter Thompson, he was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the firm’s Washington, D.C. operations. Bibby has been active in the non-profit community of Washington, D.C. for the past 30 years.

Dave Bragg Managing Director Green Street Advisors, Inc.

Dave leads Green Street's Residential Research team, covering the apartment, self-storage, student housing, manufactured housing, and single-family rental sectors. He is a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) and Urban Land Institute (ULI). Prior to joining Green Street in 2013, Dave developed and led the REIT effort at Zelman & Associates. Before that, he was a member of the REIT teams at ISI and Merrill Lynch. Thomas M. Bretz is the CEO of the successful Century 21 Affiliated’s Chicago office which he launched in 2010 with CFO Adam Freeman. The Chicago office focuses on properties in the Chicago Metro area, northern Illinois, and southeastern Wisconsin. He has leveraged his experience and market insights to create movement in the industry, solidify strategic partnerships among reputable, longstanding agencies in the city and suburbs, and grow the Century 21 brand significantly in the Metro area.

Usha Chaudhary President and Chief Operating Officer Kettler

Usha Chaudhary serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Kettler, overseeing all aspects of the organization. Mrs. Chaudhary is responsible for implementing the company’s strategic plan, and continuing Kettler’s growth in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., region, the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions.

Mrs. Chaudhary earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from St. Stephen’s College in New Delhi, India. Christopher G. Cwalina Partner Holland & Knight

Christopher G. Cwalina is a partner in Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C., office and co-chair of the Data Security & Privacy Team. He concentrates his national practice primarily on privacy and data security compliance; litigation; defending companies in investigations initiated by state attorneys’ general, the FTC and other government agencies; responding to security breach incidents; establishing international compliance frameworks for companies; and developing and writing company policies and procedures.

Mr. Cwalina has managed some of the largest data breaches in the country. He regularly serves as a “breach coach” – leading companies from a variety of industries through crisis management and the intricacies of managing the competing interests of affected customers, consumers, regulators, Congress, consumer groups, media, law enforcement, payment processors and other third parties involved when large breaches occur.

Robert E. DeWitt Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer GID

Robert E. DeWitt is Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of GID. He oversees corporate strategy development, new client/equity partner sourcing and procurement, property acquisitions and dispositions, client relations and overall management of the company.

Ms. Dunn joined Bell Partners in 2010 as the CIO and eventually chair of the Executive Committee. As of February 2016, she assumed the role of President and oversees all aspects of the company's business including Investment, Finance, Operations, Fund Management, Accounting and Construction. Kenny Emson, CPA is Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration, with responsibility for NMHC’s internal operations and finance functions including accounting, NMHC meetings, membership, human resources and information systems. Prior to joining NMHC, Kenny served as Chief Development Officer and Chief Financial Officer for The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, a philanthropic nonprofit that pools $350 million in charitable assets to benefit Washington-area and national charities.

Kenny is a native of England and came to the US to attend the George Washington University on a full soccer scholarship. Constance Freedman Founder and Managing Partner Moderne Ventures

Constance Freedman is the Founder and Managing Partner of Moderne Ventures. Prior to launching Moderne, Freedman was the head of Strategic Investments at the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) where she launched and managed its investment arm, Second Century Ventures (SCV), and founded its accelerator program, Reach. During her tenure with NAR, Constance invested in over 30 technology companies and helped bring them to market in the real estate industry and beyond. Mr. Gray is Managing Director and Head of Investments for Lennar Multifamily Communities. Focused on raising debt/equity and dispositions nationally, John oversees the investment activity of LMC. Since the firm was founded in summer of 2011, LMC has closed into 51 development joint ventures with a total cost of $3.9 billion. Shawn Mahoney is Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Mr. Mahoney oversees GID’s strategic technology planning and has primary responsibility for the management of the MIS group. Hessam Nadji President and Chief Executive Officer Marcus & Millichap

Hessam Nadji is president and chief executive officer for Marcus & Millichap, a leading commercial real estate brokerage firm with more than 1,600 investment professionals in offices throughout the United States and Canada.

Mr. Nadji’s 20-year history with the firm as a key member of the management team includes being appointed to Senior Executive Vice President of the company in May 2015, where he oversaw the company’s national specialty brokerage divisions, mortgage brokerage division Marcus & Millichap Capital Corporation (MMCC) and research/advisory services, as well as corporate functions including finance and marketing. Mark Parrell Executive Vice President & CFO Equity Residential

Mr. Parrell is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Equity Residential, a position he has held since October 2007. In this role, Mr. Parrell is responsible for the company’s accounting, budgeting, tax and treasury and investor relations functions. Mr. Parrell also serves on the company’s Investment Committee.

Hon. Henry M. Paulson Conservationist, Businessman, China Expert, Author, Founder & Chairman, The Paulson Institute and Former Secretary of the Treasury

Henry M. Paulson, Jr. is a conservationist, businessman, China expert and author. He is the founder and chairman of The Paulson Institute, and co-chairman of the Latin American Conservation Council of The Nature Conservancy and the Risky Business initiative.

Paulson served as the 74th Secretary of the Treasury under President George W. Bush, from July 2006 to January 2009. Prior to that, he had a thirty-two-year career at Goldman Sachs, serving as chairman and chief Executive Officer beginning in 1999. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the White House Domestic Council as well as a staff assistant at the Pentagon.

Today, he serves as founder and chairman of The Paulson Institute at the University of Chicago, a non- partisan institution aimed at strengthening the economic and environmental relationship between the United States and China. A “think and do” tank founded in 2011, the Institute’s work is comprised of programs, advocacy and research with partners around the globe.

Maxwell E. Peek Executive Vice President-Investment & New Business Initiatives Waterton

Mr. Peek is an Executive Vice President with Waterton, a national commercial real estate owner and operator. Throughout his tenure at Waterton Mr. Peek has been responsible for the acquisition and disposition of over $2.5 Billion in multifamily properties nationwide, including equity and debt level transactions. Currently, Mr. Peek oversees the Eastern US investment team, and focuses on new business development for Waterton. Mr. Peek serves on Waterton’s Management Committee, Product Development Committee, and is a founding member of the company’s Innovation Committee. Mr. Peek also serves on the Board of Directors for Elmspring, a real estate technology accelerator that Waterton has partnered with to promote disruptive technologies in the real estate industry.

Mr. Peek is a member of the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC), where he is Vice Chairman of the Tax Committee, and is a former Co-Founder and Vice Chairman for the NMHC Emerging Leaders Group. Mr. Peek is a member of Urban Land Institute (ULI), serving on the Multifamily Bronze Product Council, and serves on the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association (WREAA) Board of Directors and the Wisconsin School of Business Alumni Board of Directors. Mr. Peek is on the advisory board for a number of real estate technology startups. Mr. Peek is a past member of the Associate Board for Children’s Oncology Services, Inc.

Rob Prager leads AvalonBay Communities' information security team and is considered a security expert with over 14 years’ experience in security and privacy. His experience in the security and privacy space, as well as security innovation and security operations, has been within highly regulated financial services and Big-4 consulting organizations with his most recent experience as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Zurich North American Insurance Company and Global Head of Security Operations for Zurich Insurance Company. Rob's focus is to innovate security capabilities by investing as a measure of threats and business risk.

David Schwartz Co-Founder, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Waterton Associates L.L.C.

Mr. Schwartz co-founded Waterton Associates L.L.C. with Peter Vilim in 1995 and serves as CEO and Co-chairman. Mr. Schwartz, along with Mr. Vilim, shares the ultimate responsibility for Waterton’s business activities and operations. Mr. Schwartz participates on Waterton’s leadership and investment committees.

Prior to co-founding Waterton in 1995, Mr. Schwartz was a vice president of acquisitions for Equity Residential Properties Trust (EQR-NYSE) and from 1985 through 1989 was with AMLI Realty Co. During that time, he invested over $1 billion in 70 properties totaling approximately 20,000 units. Mr. Schwartz received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Illinois and Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.

Mr. Schwartz is a member of the executive committee, a senior officer and Secretary of the National Multi Housing Council. He is also a member of the Urban Land Institute and is chairman of the Multifamily Blue Council, is a member of the Pension Real Estate Association and the Economic Club of Chicago. Vivek Wadhwa Academic, Researcher, Writer and Entrepreneur; Fellow, Arthur & Toni Rembe Rock Center, Stanford University

Vivek Wadhwa is a Fellow at the Arthur & Toni Rembe Rock Center for Corporate Governance, Stanford University; Director of Research at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Research Commercialization at the Pratt School of Engineering, Duke University; and Faculty and Advisor at Singularity University. He is author of The Immigrant Exodus: Why America Is Losing the Global Race to Capture Entrepreneurial Talent, which was named by The Economist as a Book of the Year of 2012, and of Innovating Women: The Changing Face of Technology, which documents the struggles and triumphs of women.

Vivek Wadhwa researches exponentially-growing technologies that are soon going to change our world. These advances – in fields such as robotics, Artificial Intelligence, computing, synthetic biology, 3D printing, medicine, and nanomaterials – are making it possible for small teams to do what was once possible only for governments and large corporations to do: solve the grand challenges in education, water, food, shelter, health, and security. They will also disrupt industries and companies which can understand and lead the disruption will be tomorrow’s leaders.

Wadhwa lectures on subjects such as entrepreneurship and public policy; helps prepare students for the real world; and leads groundbreaking research projects. He is an advisor to several governments; mentors entrepreneurs; and is a regular columnist for The Washington Post, and a contributor to TechCrunch, LinkedIn Influencers blog, and the American Society of Engineering Education’s Prism magazine. Prior to joining academia in 2005, Wadhwa founded two software companies.

Sam Zell Chairman Equity Group Investments

Sam Zell is a global, opportunistic, often contrarian, investor. He specializes in identifying market anomalies and emerging trends, and has a long track record in turning around troubled companies and assets, leading industry consolidations, and brining companies to the public markets. The majority of his investment portfolio is in energy, logistics, transportation, manufacturing, communications and healthcare, but he is often best known for his pioneering role and stewardship in creating the modern commercial real estate industry.

Sam is the Chairman of Equity Group Investments, the private investment firm he founded more than 45 years ago. He also chairs five companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange: Equity Residential, the largest apartment REIT in the country; Equity LifeStyle Properties, a manufactured home community and resort REIT; Equity Commonwealth, an office REIT; Covanta Holding Corporation, an international owner/operator of energy-from-waste and power generation facilities; and Anixter International Inc., a leading global provider of communications, security, and wire and cable products.

Sam also founded and chaired Equity Office Properties Trust, the largest office REIT until its 2007 sale for $39 billion in the largest leveraged buyout at the time. In addition, he introduced the first Brazilian and Mexican real estate companies, respectively, to the New York Stock Exchange though Equity International, a second private investment firm he founded to focus on real estate-related businesses in emerging markets.

Sam is an active philanthropist with a focus on entrepreneurial education. Through the Zell Family Foundation, he has led the sponsorship of the Zell/Lurie Entrepreneurial Center at the University of Michigan; the Zell Scholars Program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management; the Samuel Zell/Robert Lurie Real Estate Center at University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Real Estate Center; and the Zell Entrepreneurship Center at the interdisciplinary Center Herzliya (IDC).
