Marvel at the rampart views from Jodphur's Meherangarh Fort, enjoy a safari in Ranthambore National Park, and then soak in the relaxed atmosphere of Udaipur. Reiserute Delhi Arrive at any time. There are no planned activities until an evening welcome meeting. Jodhpur Arrive early in Jodhpur, the second largest city in Rajasthan, often called the “Blue City” for the vast number of houses painted in the colour. Take a short climb to the top of a hill on the outskirts of the city to reach the Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest forts in India. Later, wander around Old City with its clock tower and Sadar Bazaar, one of the oldest markets in India. Opt to head further afield and visit a Bishnoi tribal village. Jodhpur/Udaipur Travel on to Udaipur and take an orientation walk, including a visit to Lake Pichola. In the evening, attend a Rajasthani cultural show at the Bagore-ki-Haveli Folk Museum on Gangaur Ghat. Udaipur Visit Rajasthan's largest palace and Jagdish temple before enjoying free time to explore. You could journey out to the hilltop Monsoon Palace, the summer resort of the Maharajas. Sitting atop a hill with a panoramic view of the city’s lakes, it a great place to watch the sunset. Discover the early morning serenity of the city by pre-booking the Udaipur Sunrise Cycle tour extra, or opt to sharpen your culinary skills by pre-booking the Udaipur Cooking School extra. Udaipur/Jojawar Journey to rural Jojawar and take an orientation walk of the village. Undiscovered by most travellers, explore this small village on foot and gain insight into life in rural India. Jojawar/Pushkar Travel through Ajmer and over Snake Mountain to Pushkar, one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites in the world. Take an orientation walk, including the lake, ghats, and the 14th-century Brahma Temple. This evening, embark on a sunset camel ride out into the desert. Pushkar Enjoy the sunrise from Savitri Temple, which overlooks all of Pushkar and the surrounding landscape. Spend the rest of the day freely exploring the ghats and holy city at leisure. Pushkar/Jaipur In the morning, travel to Jaipur—one of the most important heritage cities in India—commonly known as "The Pink City." Take an afternoon orientation walk, then continue exploring on your own. A visit to Jaipur wouldn't be complete without catching a Bollywood film in the spectacular Art Deco film house — the Raj Mandir Cinema. Jaipur Stop for a photo opportunity at Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds) before continuing to Amber Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site clinging to the surrounding hills on Maota Lake. Afterward, opt to visit the Anokhi Museum, established to ensure the ancient traditions of hand block printing are maintained. With free time, opt to head out to the nearby village of Sanganer to see blue pottery, handmade paper, or more hand block printing. Choose to visit the Jantar Mantar, an observatory built in the 1700s, or sip a cocktail in one of the luxuriously converted palaces. Depending on the time of year, opt to see the city from above by pre-booking the Jaipur Balloon Ride when booking your tour. Jaipur/Ranthambore National Park Travel to Ranthambore National Park—home to tigers, leopards, crocodiles, among many other flora and fauna—and visit the Ranthambore Fort this afternoon to watch the sunset. Tonight's accommodation is outside of the national park. Ranthambore National Park Embark on an included safari in the park this morning and search for the elusive bengal tiger. This afternoon, opt for another safari or sit back and relax. Today's safari is in a common canter. The canters are open top vehicles that seat 24, and typically your group will be sharing the canter with other visitors to the park. Tonight's accommodation is outside of the national park. Ranthambore National Park/Āgra Continue on to Agra, visiting the impressive Abhaneri stepwell en route. Āgra/Delhi Visit India’s most famous landmark, the Taj Mahal. Start out before sunrise for the best light in which to see this white marble masterpiece. In Agra, ride one of the ubiquitous cycle rickshaws to visit the Agra Fort. In the afternoon, travel to Delhi and opt to explore some of the city's fascinating monuments and museums with free time. Important Notes CULTURE India is a country which is very different to anything you will have experienced before. Although this means it is not the easiest place to travel, this is also what makes it so special. Pollution, poverty and the crowds can result in initial culture shock but should be seen as an exciting new challenge. During our time here we have come to love this large and wonderfully different country but we know that we should always expect to encounter some difficulties along the way. In India there are very different attitudes to time keeping, public cleanliness, privacy and service. Trains will sometimes be late, plumbing can sometimes be temperamental and power will often just vanish. Optimistic menus turn out to have only one dish available and everyone, just everyone, will want to know your name. If you are able to travel with a lot of patience and a healthy sense of humour, then we know that you - like all of us - will be captivated by what India has to offer. Group Leader Description All G Adventures group trips are accompanied by one of our Chief Experience Officers (CEO). The aim of the CEO is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. They will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the countries visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects.

    © Lonely Planet Publications 220 lonelyplanet.com 221 Southern Rajasthan Southern Rajasthan holds arguably Rajasthan’s most enchanting city, Udaipur, a milk-white confection meandering around several lakes. The city is the ultimate in Rajput fantasy with its cream-coloured havelis (traditional mansions) and palaces, one of which, floating in Pichola Lake, is among the world’s most famous hotels, the Lake Palace. In the south of the region are Rajasthan’s two finest forts, Chittorgarh (Chittor), sprawl- ing over an enormous hilltop plateau, and remote Kumbalgarh, perched at 1100m, with breathtaking views over the dense Aravalli Hills fading into a pale blue horizon. Here, too, are two Jain temple complexes where artistic virtuosity reached dizzy peaks. Ranakpur, deep in an Aravalli valley, has a hall of 1444 pillars, each one different; Dilwara, on a hilltop near Mt Abu, sports marble carving so delicate that it’s almost transparent. Mt Abu is Ra- jasthan’s only hill station; a cool holiday destination for locals, it’s still largely undiscovered by foreign tourists. If you’re keen to get off the well-beaten track, Bundi, though definitely discovered, is an enchanting town, painted Brahmin blue and overlooked by a palace; nearby Kota holds another fine palace. Jhalawar, meanwhile, is really off the trail, with its mighty, forgotten fort and nearby city of temples. Serene Jaisamand, a vast blue-reflecting hill-ringed expanse, is Asia’s biggest artificial lake. The region offers some exhilarating activities too. You can trek or ride the beautiful countryside near Udaipur, Mt Abu or Kumbalgarh, cycle about Bundi, or take a boat trip down the crocodile habitats of the Chambal River.
