Building a Better Shabbat – The progress being made on our stunning new social complex is so swift that we’ll be finishing all the major construction in less than three weeks! As a result, we’re going to host our upcoming first of the year Family Shul Shabbaton in it. Because the stunning new banquet hall is almost complete, we’re not going to post any more pictures of the progress. Instead, we want you to be surprised and amazed in person on Friday evening, October 25 when you’ll see it for the very first time! This very special Shabbaton will serve as the grand opening for our community, complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday afternoon before Shabbat arrives. The guest speaker for this historic Shabbat will be the world-renowned Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Jacobson. A globetrotting presenter & master instructor, Rabbi Jacobson lectures to Jewish and non-Jewish audiences on six continents, and serves as a universal teacher and mentor to thousands. He’s a mesmerizing orator who excels at making Torah insight relevant to contemporary audiences. So lock in Friday, October 25 and Shabbat morning October 26 and be there as we inaugurate our stunning new Social Hall and celebrate our latest remarkable communal achievement! Yes, We Do Windows… …into your soul! The all-new Rosh Chodesh Society women’s-only study series for the year 5774 begins next month. This year’s extraordinary curriculum is entitled A Reason to Celebrate, and once again this eye-opening course especially created for women, by women will focus on uncovering the deeper meaning and timeless relevancy of our Jewish holidays. All Flamingo Ladies should sign up now and become part of this unique Jewish women’s global educational movement. Discover how the holidays can become windows into our inner selves, fortifying us with tools to successfully face our challenges. Registration opens on October 15th and the classes, taught by Rebbetzin Faygie Kaplan will be held each month on the first Monday of the new Hebrew month in close proximity to Rosh Chodesh beginning at 8:00 pm. Raiders of the Lost Ark – This week’s parsha is called Noach, named after the righteous man who was instructed by G-d to build a wooden Teiva – a giant floating barge-like boat referred to as an “Ark”. This ancient lifecraft sheltered Noach, his family and at least two members (male and female) of each animal from a huge Mabul or devastatingly destructive flood. G-d was so upset with all the violence and corruption among the people that he made it rain for 40 days and nights in order to wipe planet earth clean and reinvent the world, removing all land life in the process. But the amazing ark floated along, keeping Noach, his family, and all the animals alive so that they could later re-populate it. To learn more about this extraordinary watercraft and its unique story, all the children will make their own edible ark out of different yummy treats! This Shabbat we’ll also be celebrating Birthday Club (as it is Rosh Chodesh), and recognize all the children whose birthdays fall in the upcoming month of Cheshvan. A reminder that tokens and the Grand Raffle follow Ein Kelokeinu. Mazel Tov to last week’s Shabbat mensch: Elisheva Papernick! Iron Chef – Kids Edition – Check out the official launch of Mini Chefs – Kids in the Kitchen @ Flamingo, the fantastic new program for kids in nursery, JK, and SK! Real Men Do BMX – Attention all soon-to-be Bar Mitzvah Boys and their parents! We’re launching an all-new Bar Mitzvah Experience (BMX) so that you can be the best man you can be! This exciting new endeavor led by our dynamic etc (see above!) Youth Rabbi Meir Dubrawsky will be an exciting, engaging and creative experience. It will provide these soon-to-be men with wisdom, understanding and knowledge of what ‘becoming a man’ means from a Jewish perspective and give the participants newfound appreciation of the responsibilities and privileges of being Jewish. To ensure success, Meir is planning to cap enrollment at only 10 boys, and there are already 6 signed up! Act now and grab one of the few remaining spaces while you can. For more info or to register your son, please contact Meir at [email protected] or call him on cell phone (416) 605-9773. Sessions begin later on this month on selected Wednesdays at 6:30pm! Be a man and join us! Songs, Smores and Souls – On Motzei Shabbat/Saturday night October 26, all Flamingo Teens are invited to join together for an awesome inspiring and uplifting Havdallah event! This amazing spiritual rendition of the traditional farewell to Shabbat will led by the world famous Rabbi Yossi Jacobson. They’ll be tons of great food, soul-touching ideas, a jam session and smores around the fire. For more info about this exciting upcoming event, Meir is once again the man to contact! Trials and Tribulations – On Tuesday, October 15, noted scholar and author Rabbi Yerachmiel Moskoff will be with us @ Flamingo to present a very special lecture at 8:00 pm all about his recently published book, This Too was for the Best: Approaching Trials and Tribulations from a Torah Perspective. The Toronto born and bred Rabbi (who is the son of our dear Shul members Frank and Sheila Moskoff!) lives in Israel but is now in Canada for a special book tour. His book provides fresh context and insight on the phenomenon of suffering and the pain and anguish that has punctuated Jewish history. Written almost exclusively from a Mussar (non-esoteric or mystical) perspective, it provides a pragmatic and sobering yet fascinating Torah analysis on this subject. Discover how the challenges we face are actually carefully designed mechanisms to help us grow. The important information to be revealed has the potential to enhance, add simcha and meaning to your life, so don’t miss it! A G-d-given Right to Joy – The first set of special new classes to be featured this year are the Tanya Teachings, beginning Sunday mornings at 8:30am.
