Traditional mainstream media images of Witches tell us they are evil “devil worshipping baby killers,” green-skinned hags who fly on brooms, or flaky tree huggers who dance naked in the woods. A variety of mainstream media has worked to support these notions as well as develop new ones. Contemporary American popular culture shows us images of Witches on television shows and in films vanquishing demons, traveling back and forth in time and from one reality to another, speaking with dead relatives, and attending private schools, among other things. None of these mainstream images acknowledge the very real beliefs and traditions of modern Witches and Pagans, or speak to the depth and variety of social, cultural, political, and environmental work being undertaken by Pagan and Wiccan groups and individuals around the world. Utilizing social construction theory, this study examines the “historical process” of the construction of stereotypes surrounding Witches in mainstream American society as well as how groups and individuals who call themselves Pagan and/or Wiccan have utilized the only media technology available to them, the internet, to resist and re- construct these images in order to present more positive images of themselves as well as build community between and among Pagans and nonPagans. -

A Christian Psychologist Looks at The Da Vinci Code April 2006 Stephen Farra, PhD, LP, Columbia International University For information about reprinting this article, please contact Dr. Farra at [email protected] Understanding the Agenda behind The Da Vinci Code A number of scholarly, thoughtful responses to The Da Vinci Code have already been produced by other members of the Christian community. These other responses, though, tend to concentrate on historical and factual errors, and the false conclusions these errors can produce. This response is different. While this response also highlights several historical/factual errors in the text of The Da Vinci Code, this response attempts to go to the conceptual and spiritual essence of the book. Instead of focusing on mistakes, and what is obviously distorted and deliberately left out, this response focuses on what is actually being presented and sold in the book. It is the thesis of this review that what is being presented and sold in The Da Vinci Code is Wicca – Neo-paganism, modern Witchcraft, “the Wiccan Way.” People need to make up their own minds on this important issue, however. A comparative chart, and numerous other quotations / examples are employed to present the evidence, and make the case. The Da Vinci Code is not just a novel. If that is all it was or is, there would be no need for the page boldly labeled "FACT” (all capital letters). The FACT page is page 1 in the book, the last printed page before the Prologue, the true beginning of the story. On the FACT page, the author(s) try to convince you that they have done a good job of researching and fairly representing both the Priory of Sion and Opus Dei, and then go on to boldly proclaim: "All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are accurate." This "novel" is really a deconstructionist, post-modern attempt to re-write history, with a hidden agenda deeply embedded within the deconstructionist effort. -

Personas of Warzone There are many personalities that have risen to the ranks of fame or notoriety, and many are included in existing armies. These few do not begin to scratch the surface of how many heroes and villains inhabit the Solar System, fighting in the various warzones across the planets. These steps will allow you to create your own characters to add your own individuality and narrative to your armies. 1. Name the Character 2. Select Character Type 3. Select Weapons 4. Select Additional Abilities Example: Lt. Butters starts out as a Capitol Airborne Cavalry for (+18) PTS. Air Cavalry are Level 1 so add (+30). He decides to swap out his M50 Assault rifle for an M606 LMG for (+10) PTS and his Air Cavalry Knife for a Punisher Shortsword (+10) PTS. He has also received extra training to be more vigilant, so he adds (+10) for Guardsman. His total points cost is 78. 1. Name the Character: The first thing you need to do is come up with a suitable heroic or villainous name for the new Character. This should reflect the theme and feel of the Mutant Chronicles universe! 2. Select Character Type: Start with a base squad All models lose “Type: Troop, Support, Monster, Small Base” and gain “Type: Character, Unique, Medium Base”. Models with larger bases in their entry keep the base size of that entry. All models come with the standard Equipment and Abilities listed in the corresponding squad entry, as well as appropriate Squad Options. Dark Legion Characters may choose up to 2 Dark Symmetry powers unless otherwise stated in the entry. -

' 1983 against Defendant Reverend Anthony Bruno. Plaintiff contends that Reverend Bruno violated his rights under the First Amendment and the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act(―RLUIPA‖), 42 U.S.C. § 2000cc, et seq., by denying him various items required to practice his religion. He also asserts a federal claim for denial of equal protection of the laws and several state law claims. Reverend Bruno moves for summary judgment. Facts1 Plaintiff is a sentenced inmate confined at the Enfield Correctional Institution. His disciplinary record includes charges for fighting, gang affiliation, security tampering, flagrant disobedience and possession of contraband. The Department of Correction (―DOC‖) affords administrative remedies for prisoners to address issues related to their confinement. Inmates are informed of the procedures at inmate orientation. They attend an orientation session when they enter DOC custody and every time they transfer to a different correctional facility. Upon admission to DOC custody, inmates receive a written summary of Administrative Directive 9.6, which sets forth the administrative remedy procedures. The procedures are also set forth in the facility-specific handbook an inmate receives each time he is transferred to a different correctional facility. -

Rebecca Short 24 September 2012 Professor Greta Austin The Methodology of Resistance in Contemporary NeoPagan Culture The number of adherents of NeoPaganism is one of the fastest growing, doubling in numbers about every eighteen months. 1 NeoPaganism is a set of several religious traditions and spiritualities that seek to either (1) painstakingly reconstruct the indigenous religions of the Christianized world, especially those of Europe, or (2) reinterpret these religions in the contemporary era to formulate new religious traditions. Reconstructionist NeoPagan traditions include Asatru , a Norse Reconstructionist path, and Hellenismos , a Greek Reconstructionist religion. More contemporary, eclectic, new religious movements include Wicca, a tradition of religious witchcraft born out of the ancient Hermetic school of spirituality and magic practice. Wicca is by far the most popular tradition (or, now, set of traditions) in all of NeoPaganism. This religious tradition was started by a man named Gerald Gardner in 1950s England. -

Texas Local Council Covenant of the Goddess Wiccan General Practices Historical Roots to Modern Practice It has been suggested that the practices of Wicca have been performed since antiquity, but there is really no evidence to suggest that current-day Wicca is the same thing that our ancestors practiced. This does not mean that we don’t believe similar concepts or practice similar rites. People worshipped what they saw, the Sun, the Moon, stars, and constellations. They created Gods and Goddesses that looked like them. Modern Witches hold rituals according to the turning of the seasons, the tides of the moon, and personal needs. Most rituals are performed in a ritual space marked by a circle. We do not build church buildings to create this sacred, ritual space -- all Earth is sacred and in touch with the Goddess and so any place, indoors or out, may be consecrated for ritual use. The Circle Within this sacred circle, two main activities occur: celebration, and the practice of magic. Celebration is most important at the major seasonal holy days, the Sabbats. At these times, the myths of that particular holiday are enacted in ritual drama, and dancing, singing, feasting, and revelry are all part of the festivities. On these occasions we celebrate our oneness with life on Earth, as well as assimilating on the deepest level myths and archetypes which map and assist our own life-passages. When the celebration, teaching, or magical work is finished, the blessing of the Goddess (and God) is called into food and drink which are shared by all.
