His research focuses on law and justice and policy reform issues in the global south. Dr. Sungi is a passionate advocate on human rights and crime prevention policies that are scientifically driven. He has published in numerous scholarly journals and edited books. He is a member of several professional organizations, such as the American Society of Criminology, the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the Tanganyika Law Society, the Law Society of Kenya, the International Bar Association and the East African Law Society, to mention just a few.
