Beautiful automatic Mathey Tissot from the 1960’s. The watch is square in 14K gold. The dial has a champagne color with index every five minutes. The date comes at 3 o’clock. The case has engraved “Mathey Tissot – Swiss” with the hammer 127, 14K – 0.585 and number 1550. The crown has the Mathey Tissot logo. The movement is Mathey Tissot Swiss with 17 jewels – On the wheel you have engraved Mathey Tissot since 1886. The watch is in excellent condition and runs great.

The company was founded in 1886 by Edmond Mathey Tissot in Les Ponts de Martel. The company specialty was complication especially repeater pocket watches as well as chronographs. In 1899, Mathey built a new plant due to its success in particular in providing watches to the army. In 1914, Mathey-Tissot was represented at the Kew Observatory Competition with six observatory chronometers capable of split-second timing, all six being rated 'Class A' with the comment 'specially good'. The same year, Mathey-Tissot gained the Grand Prix at the Swiss National Exhibition. Mathey Tissot also encounters great success with the US army with precision chronograph. The name 'E. Mathey-Tissot & Co.' was protected by trademark in the US in 1937. In the late 1960's, early 1970's, the iconic singer Elvis Presley bought dozen of customized Mathey Tissot for his family, friends, and staff, the purpose being to identify the wearers as having a privileged right of access to Presley's concerts and tours. Some of these watches have his name around the bezel and sold for over $14,000 in auction.
