Racquet Club. Convenors Shawn Morris, Suzanne Lachner, Jason Snider along with the balance of their organizing committee, delivered another high quality event despite some challenging weather issues. 402 athletes from 17 Associations participated in this year’s Championship and 469 matches were played in 10 different divisions. OFSAA Track & Field Belleville June 1 - 3, 2017

The 2017 spring track season was very difficult in terms of weather conditions. Regional championships were held in cold & wet conditions. However, under the beautiful backdrop of Mary Ann Sills Park Complex & Bruce Faulds Track in Belleville, the conditions were near perfect. Brian Poste (North Hastings) and Tim Larry (retired) provided the leadership and inspiration for the many volunteers and committee members from the East Region to ensure the success of the championship for 2,392 participants and their coaches from 530 schools across Ontario.

The OFSAA 2017 Championships welcomed back Dr. Michael Ponikvar, one of OFSAA greatest competitors in the High Jump. Michael competed for Denis Morris HS in the 90’s. Michael still holds the OFSAA Junior (2.04m) and Senior (2.24m) High Jump records. He also holds the Canadian Interscholastic Record in High Jump of 2.24m which he set in 1998.

OFSAA would like to thank the organizing committee, the adult officials, and the student volunteers who made the 2017 championships a great success. The organizing OFSAA congratulates Louis O’Neill (St. Thomas Aquinas – committee would also like to thank the City of Belleville for Lindsay) for being the recipient of the OFSAA Leadership its support of OFSAA as well as the many sponsors who also In School Sport Award.
