We are continuously striving to fulfil our mission in the following identified areas: To utilize academic autonomy to develop and maintain high academic standards in accordance with the national framework and changing academic and social benchmarks. To be an enabling agency for the students to develop their potentials to the fullest and become productive and responsible citizens of the contemporary society and the country. To promote and strengthen skill based courses in the curriculum. To promote student-centric technology enabled teaching and learning along with the core conventional methodology. To promote original and quality research with an emphasis on interdisciplinary approach. To encourage and support the faculty members to enhance their academic proficiency in accordance with the contemporary benchmarks. To encourage a sense of teamwork and community service amongst the students and faculty members. To foster and institutionalize innovative and best practices in the workplace by using transparent and decentralized working environment. Kohima Science College, Jotsoma Page 5 Self Study Report 2016 GOVERNMENT OF NAGALAND Office of the Principal Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, Kohima, Nagaland- 797002 (An Autonomous Government PG College) _________________________________________________________________________ PREFACE Kohima Science College, we adore, is a premier institute of science education in the state. It was established on 15th September 1961. The college celebrated its golden jubliee in 2011. Initially, the college was affiliated to Gauhat University, Guwahati and subsequently to North Eastern Hill University, Shillong and finally in 1994 to Nagaland University. The vision statement of the college is “to develop the college into a research driven education hub of national and international repute”. The college moto Omnia Vincit Labor is a guiding force in our long journey to fulfil the vision statement. The college was assessed and accreditated by the NAAC in 2011 with an “A” grade. Now, the college is charting its way to sail through the upcoming challenges of new benchmarks of excellence. The assessment report of the peer team during 1st cycle provided a roadmap to prepare ourselves for 2nd cycle of NAAC assessment. All the stakeholders rose to the occasion and started working for the same. Within the last five years, the college attained several milestones such as, conferment of the autonomous status by UGC, introduction of the choice based credit systems at the undergraduate level as per the national framework, starting of the postgraduate program in six disciplines and the award of the prestigious MHRD funded RUSA research project. In the coming years, it will be a mammoth challenge to strengthen the quality of these programs. In near future, the college is looking forward to start a Ph D program and new courses in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. I appreciate all the stakeholders for their tireless and unflinching support for 2nd cycle of NAAC assessment. As an academic fraternity, we are glad to present ourselves for 2nd cycle of assessment by the NAAC. We look forward to receive the NAAC nominated peer team in our campus for an enriching experience. GOVERNMENT OF NAGALAND Statements under The Nagaland Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2005 ( Laid in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly along with the Budget 2020-21 ) Finance Department Government of Nagaland 1 Form F – 1 (See rules 3 and 4) MACRO ECONOMIC FRAMEWORK STATEMENT 1. Overview of the State Economy : 1.1 The size, composition and growth of the economy determine the revenue potential of the State and the size of the budget; and the size of the budget determines the level of public expenditure. The economy is measured in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) at current prices. The projected GSDP and per capita income for the years 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 are as in Table 1.1 below: Table 1.1 (Rs. in Crore) 2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20 (actual) (actual) (quick) (Advance (Advance) GSDP at current 19524 21488 23623 25986 27140 (R. cr.) Overview of State Government Finances: 2.1 The fiscal base and fiscal health of a State are directly related to the development of the State. Public Investment in the infrastructure would expand the productive capacity of the economy and thus expand the revenue generating potential of the State. The fiscal base is determined by the size of the economy, which can be expanded in the long run. Thus, in the medium term, the fiscal health of the State has to be improved so that the Government can increase the development expenditure to expand the economic base.

An initiative of Branding & Communications team of IIT Kharagpur and the students body Branding & Relations Cell led by Dean, International Relations. For more information contact: [email protected] I congratulate the Branding and Communications Cell of the Institute for this novel initiative. Students enjoy the learning experience best when they are challenged. I have often interacted with students, asking them what they thought was the best or worst in a class that they had just attended. And I have often been stumped by their replying that they thought they had “learnt nothing”. Why? I asked them. They said that they did not find the teaching challenging enough. This should leave no one in doubt that we should take another look at the teaching and learning process. Students themselves can be a part of this relook. I have often advocated for student-teachers, often letting them take my own class. The result has been phenomenal, making students involved learners. Only greater involvement on the part of students can ensure their learning. This does not have to happen inside the class always. Sports, extra-curricular activities provide their own challenges. I encourage students to take up these challenges. As these entries show, many of them have indeed taken them up, and realized their enormous potential and talent. Tap your hidden talents and energies. Take up challenges, get involved and enjoy the learning experience Every student is an achiever in his or her own right. Each of them has tremendous potential inside them, and if they pursue their passion with focus and hard work, they will reach their goal.
