22 - 03 - 19 Home Bulletin Dear Parents/Carers

We have enjoyed another busy week at , with World Book Day, a number of sporting fixtures and finalising plans for the Y9 Battlefield trip and KS4 German trip to the Black Forest that take place this term. I am sure that you will join me in thanking Mrs Thomas, Mr Guichard and Mr Cheong for leading the recent visit to Paris. Students and staff had a thoroughly enjoyable visit. Hopefully they have all caught up on their sleep now! As you will be aware, our school was recently inspected by Ofsted and I will share the findings of the inspection when published. Ms Neal is currently analysing Y9 option forms and will be in contact with students in the next two weeks if there are any questions or queries about their choices. Final option choices will be confirmed during May 2019. Finally, it was a pleasure to welcome so many students, parents and carers at our recent Y10 parents’ evening and I would like to thank you for your continued support.

Best wishes

Ms Baster

Travel Information

Suffolk County Council has introduced a new school travel policy, effective from September 2019. This new policy is being phased in as children start or move school. All children using SCC funded school travel will have to opt-in to the service each year by no later than 31 May to ensure that the transport provision is in place by the start of the new academic year in September. If you apply after 31 May, there is no guarantee that your child’s transport provision will be in place for the start of the new school year. Please see www.suffolkonboard.com/optin for further information. Notice Board World Book Day On the 7th March, we celebrated World Book day. It was a great day exploring books and the whole school got involved. We celebrated in lots of different ways: there was a ‘dress up a vegetable as a book character’ competition, book craft activities, Quidditch and some funbook-related games. Everyone had the opportunity to collect a free World Book Day book - this was very popular and many students attended. There was a whole school competition where staff chose a book character and students had to guess which character they were and why they had chosen it. The student who identified the most characters won an Amazon voucher and a book. The winner was Toby Jones from 8LBL! This competition encouraged students and teachers to communicate outside of the classroom which was great and it caused quite a buzz around the school. Student comments: ‘I thought it was good because people could get involved in books and it was for all ages’. Year 7 Student. ‘It was a very good book and I don’t always like reading!’ comment from a Year 9 student. ‘ It was a great opportunity to get a free book!’ from another Year 9 student.
