A basal breccia-conglomerate containing locally derived clasts of Coal Measures rocks. Railway track disused, ownership unknown, becoming overgrown. Exposure would mainly be of interest to the specialist geologist. Source: Staton, 1985 Summary: In the railway cutting there are good exposures of the Huntley Formation; poorly-sorted matrix-supported conglomerate containing a large proportion of locally derived sub-rounded to angular clasts from granule to pebble size. Clasts found include Limestone and Coal Measures sandstones. The stream bank, which is a little inaccessible, in the field below the railway exposes clays and shales of Coal Measures age. An occasionally seen narrow shale band is probably the (Anthracoceras vanderbeckei) marine band. Fossil fish- scales have been found nearby. In road cuttings above the railway, sandstones of the Hawksmoor Formation are exposed whilst in the Huntley Wood Quarry, the conglomerates of the Freehay Member are quarried.
