The Word of the Federal Commissioner
CONTACT – KONTAKT - CONTATTO The U.I.G.S.E. – F.S.E. Magazine 8/2017 THE WORD OF THE FEDERAL COMMISSIONER Dear Sisters and Brothers in Scouting! The more we think about and prepare our activities, the more they are beautiful, successful and efficient. If you think about a weekend with your guides or scouts, you will see that it’s true. Father Jacques Sevin says that everything must be prepared in prayer. Apart from a good preparation, it is important to act in community. Everybody brings his experiences, knowledge and talents. Nobody needs to know everything or to be able to do everything. Think about the court of honour! Already our Lord did not send his 72 disciples alone, but in twos. Thirdly, it is essential to turn towards the little things that seem insignificant. Without losing sight of the global view, of course. We also respect everyone’s freedom to take his own decisions in things that he can account for on his own. The educator has both to ensure the possibility of the good as well as to prevent sin. What is the significance of these little things? They make the big things beautiful and outline their importance. This applies to the natural as well as to the supernatural. Nobody would voluntarily have the idea to camp between camping cars, to hold a ceremony without uniform, to prepare a meal without salt. Let us stick to this also in our spiritual life: Regular confession, Eucharistic fast one hour before the communion, a Friday effort, Holy mass on Sunday (instead of Saturday evening) and regular prayer of the rosary are sometimes laborious and even, sometimes, wrongfully regarded as dispensable. -

The Word of the Federal Commissioner
CONTACT – KONTAKT - CONTATTO U.I.G.S.E. – F.S.E. 3 /2016 THE WORD OF THE FEDERAL COMMISSIONER Dear Sisters and Brothers in Scouting! Meeting our Holy Father, Pope Francis, at the World Youth Day in Krakow gave us a lot of new inspiration and created new excitement for new projects. 1,500 Guides and Scouts of Europe from 11 European countries and even from Mexico and Madagascar offered one week of service wherever the WYD organizers called them. The conditions were an often unbearable mix of heat, humidity, or thunderstorms. Eleven hours from leaving the camp in the morning to coming “back home” were not exceptional. And the pilgrimage of Divine Mercy continued 24 hours a day calling our rangers and rovers to serve also in the middle of the night. Who are our rangers and rovers? In their day-by-day lives they are 16- to 18-year old students or young professionals as most of their peers are. The difference they make is their courage to do things they never did before by leaving their certainty and comfort behind them. It is their dedication to serve where they are called without complaining or looking for their personal advantage. It is the purity of their intentions to be happy when they see that others got happy because they met Christ through them. With these young women and men, the Guides and Scouts of Europe will always be among the first to give their “semper parati” to the Holy Father‟s appeal: “Following Jesus demands a good dose of courage, a readiness to trade in the sofa for a pair of walking shoes and to set out on new and uncharted paths.” Martin Hafner, Federal Commissioner N. -

The Word of the Federal Commissioner
CONTACT – KONTAKT - CONTATTO U.I.G.S.E. – F.S.E. 2 /2016 THE WORD OF THE FEDERAL COMMISSIONER Dear Sisters and Brothers in Scouting, In the 50 days since we have celebrated the resurrection of Christ, I was in 5 amazing places. I worked with General commissioners in Bratislava, where many Hungarian kings coming from the House of Habsburg were crowned who were at the same time ruling the Austrian Empire. Then in Cracow I took part in the FSE WYD participation for 1,500 Guides and Scouts of Europe. In Cracow I saw the sanctuaries of Divine Mercy and of St John Paul II. One week later the Federal bureau met in Cologne, close to Machabäerstraße where the FSE was born 60 years ago. You know the Maccabees from the Bible, so courageous in testifying their faith. Then the First World War battlefield of Confrécourt1 hosted me together with 60 rangers and rovers. We celebrated daily Mass in the casemates where Father Doncœur gave communion to the young soldiers immediately before they left to the battle via small stairs next to the altar. Father Doncœur seeing their faith and courage started ideas how to make their talents beneficial for peace and unity in Christ among Europe‟s peoples. Later he was the spiritual advisor for the French rovers. Later he was the advisor spiritual for the French rovers. His ideas are still alive in our movement. Finally, I met pilgrims from all over the world united around Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima celebrating the 99th anniversary of her first apparition to three shepherd children. -
Sports and Catholics in Italy from The
Recorde: Revista de História do Esporte Artigo Volume 4, número 1, junho de 2011 Angela Teja SPORTS AND CATHOLICS IN ITALY FROM THE MID- NINETEENTH CENTURY TO THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY 1 Angela Teja University of Rome – Tor Vergata Rome, Italy [email protected] Recebido em 30 de agosto de 2010 Aprovado em 14 de outubro de 2010 Abstract The relationship between sports and the Catholic world between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century is key to understanding the genesis and the development of sports in Italy. This article aims at studying the Catholic Church involvment in Italian sports through the analyses of the minutes of the first meeting of the Federazione delle Associazioni Sportive Cattoliche Italiane and some issues of its newsletter, Stadium . The Catholic Church promptly paid attention to the international spotlight on sports with its own ecumenical interests. As a consequence, the institution was involved in subjects related to gender, physical education, military training and some of the most important secular organizations that dealt with sports, like the Federazione Ginnastica Italiana, contending with them to control Italian sports organization. Keywords : sports; Catholic Church; Federazione delle Associazioni Sportive Cattoliche Italiane; Italy.
