This year’s Southern Grown Weekend promises to be full of fun and engaging experiences. As in the past, we come together to celebrate all things Southern, and this year, with our “How to Be a Southerner” workshops and demonstrations, we can brush up on our ability to tie a bow tie and shuck an oyster, or explore new tips for preparing southern cuisine and cocktails. The musical side of things will no doubt be a winner as well, starting with Garden & Gun’s Kick-off Dinner and a Show on Friday with Nashville-based Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors. The musical highlight of the weekend occurs on Saturday night when the Grammy®-nominated band NEEDTOBREATHE takes the stage. We appreciate the support and involvement of our sponsors, partners, and volunteers in planning and staging this year’s event. Thanks also go to every Sea Island team member who has helped make this weekend a reality. The record was made with renowned producer Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Modest Mouse, Kings of Leon) at The Casino in East Nashville with studio owner Eric Masse (Brothers Osborne, Mikky Ekko, Caitlin Rose) engineering. The Lights From The Chemical Plant is due February 11, 2014 on New West Records. The songs on the new album, which range from the majestic string-adorned title track to noir pop rock and somber confessionals, both show Ellis’ growth and the various sides of this multidimensional songwriter. Ellis recently told Rolling Stone The Lights From The Chemical Plant is “stylistically ambiguous,” as he is inspired by a wide variety of artists.

We will be waiting for you and will get you underway as soon as possible. With your Blue Sky Adventures water bottle in hand, it’s time to get acclimated! Your guide will be with you all day to make sure everything is fun and happens as planned. The guide will bring Colorado “alive” with stories of local legends, history and culture. This is the difference maker on a Blue Sky Adventure. Lunch – A Scout is Hungry! We will have a bag lunch waiting for you on the vehicle. This gives you the flexibility to overcome potential travel delays and helps ensure ample time for sightseeing on your arrival day. We are on our way to Morrison, Colorado just west of Denver to visit the world-famous Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. If you think Red Rocks Park is just a beautiful place to see a concert, think again! Around you are 868 acres of deer, fossils, pines and prairie, geological wonders and spectacular vistas. At 6,450 feet above sea level, Red Rocks Park is a terrific place to begin your acclimation! We will hike the 1.5 loop trail and explore the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. This is a geological phenomenon! The only naturally occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre in the world. From Sting and The Beatles, to opera stars and U2, every artist aspires to play on this magical, spiritual and emotional stage. Time permitting, we will make a 1 hour stop at the Air Force Academy for a tour of the visitor center and chapel.
