TWO MAJOR TRANSACTIONS SIGNIFICANTLY RESHAPE HAWKS FUTURE Atlanta Conveys to Brooklyn the Contract of Joe Johnson for Five Playe FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, July 11, 2012 CONTACT: Arthur Triche, Jon Steinberg or Jason Roose, Hawks Media Relations (404) 878-3800 TWO MAJOR TRANSACTIONS SIGNIFICANTLY RESHAPE HAWKS FUTURE Atlanta conveys to Brooklyn the contract of Joe Johnson for five players, draft picks and other considerations; also obtains Devin Harris from Utah for Marvin Williams ATLANTA, GA ----- Atlanta Hawks President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry today announced the team has traded Joe Johnson to the Brooklyn Nets for five players, a first- and second-round pick and other draft considerations, and also acquired Devin Harris from the Utah Jazz for Marvin Williams. In return for Johnson, the Hawks get guards Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar and DeShawn Stevenson, and forwards Johan Petro and Jordan Williams. The two picks are Houston’s 2013 first-round pick and the Nets’ second-round pick in 2017. “The Hawks want to thank Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams for their contributions on the court and in the community,” said Ferry. “We felt with the team that we had, we were probably going to maintain the status quo and not be able to reach a championship level. We now have the opportunity to work within the new CBA in a better way that will allow us to move forward and be opportunistic in the future as we work to build a sustainable championship level team.” Morrow returns to the Atlanta area after playing his collegiate ball at Georgia Tech. Undrafted in 2008, the 6-5 guard was signed as a free agent by the Golden State Warriors where he spent two seasons, before he was traded to the Nets for a future second-round pick in July 2010. In four years as a pro, Morrow has averaged 12.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 256 career games. Considered one of the league’s best pure shooters, he has made 45.1% of his field goal attempts, 42.6% of his three-pointers and 89.7% of his free throws. On February 3 of this past season, he tallied a career-high 42 points vs. Minnesota. A first-round selection of the Lakers in 2006, Farmar was the 26 th overall pick and played four seasons in Los Angeles, winning two NBA championships with his hometown team in his final two years with the club (’08-’09 and ’09-’10) and recording 6.9 points and 2.1 assists over his LA career. During the summer of 2010 (July 14), he agreed to a free agent contract with the Nets and following two seasons in New Jersey, he finished with 9.9 points and 4.4 assists. He brings career marks of 7.7 ppg and 2.8 apg after 413 games to Atlanta, having made .427 FG%, .367 3FG% and .728 FT%. The 6- 2 guard played collegiately at UCLA. Stevenson recently concluded his 12 th season in the NBA and he has averaged 7.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in 768 games. A member of the NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks in 2011, the 6-5 guard broke into the league as the 23 rd overall selection by the Utah Jazz in 2000. After three-plus years in Salt Lake City, Stevenson was traded to Orlando and spent a little more than two seasons (2003-06) with the Magic before signing a contract with the Washington Wizards in the summer of ’06. Traded to the Mavericks in February 2010, his defense on LeBron James in the Finals was considered a big part of Dallas’ success as the franchise captured its first title. Following that season, he signed a free agent contract with the Nets and played in 59 games (2.9 ppg and 2.0 rpg in 18 minutes per contest). Picked 25 th overall by the Seattle Sonics in the 2005 Draft, Petro is a 7-0 center who hails from Paris, France and he is a frequent member of the French national basketball team. Having played for three teams in his NBA career (Seattle/Oklahoma City, Denver and New Jersey), he has appeared in 442 career games and recorded 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds (.463 FG%, .669 FT%). Williams’ rookie year with the Nets saw the 6-10 forward/center play in 43 contests and post averages of 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds (.507 FG%, .652 FT%). He left the University of Maryland after two seasons with the Terrapins and he was selected by New Jersey with the 36 th pick in the 2011 Draft. An eight-year veteran, Harris’ tenure in Utah consisted of 80 games after he was traded by the Nets (along with Derrick Favors and other considerations) on February 23, 2011. He helped lead the Jazz to the first round of the playoffs before they were eliminated in four games by Dallas. In 63 games this year, Harris tallied 11.3 points and 5.0 assists, and made 44.5% of his FG attempts while shooting 75 percent from the free throw line. Selected as a reserve on the Eastern Conference’s All-Star team in 2009, Atlanta will be Harris’ fourth team since coming into the NBA in 2004. Picked fifth overall by Washington, he was traded to Dallas on draft night and played three and a half seasons for the Mavericks before he was traded to New Jersey on February 19, 2008. In three-plus seasons with the Nets, Harris’ career numbers continued to improve, topped by a personal-best 21.3 ppg average in 2008-09. It was the fifth straight season in which his scoring totals increased, to go along with career highs in rebounds (3.3 rpg) and steals (1.6 spg). Harris brings career averages of 13.1 points, 5.0 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals to Atlanta, and he has connected on .441 FG%, .315 3FG% and 80.1 percent of his FTs. Tolliver’s rebound of a missed free throw by teammate Dahntay Jones with 22.4 seconds remaining preserved the Hawks’ 104-99 come-from-behind victory over the Bucks Sunday afternoon. With a one-point lead, 100-99 after Jones’ first free throw, Tolliver looked at Jeff Teague and told his teammate a missed shot would be all his. “Yeah, I told him right before it happened, ‘I am going to get this rebound,’” Tolliver said. “I just tried to analyze the situation. I knew he has missed a few free throws earlier so I just wanted to be aggressive toward the rebound. I saw an opportunity. This was evident during the recent lockout, which resulted in new league policies designed to hinder this flow of talent. The most notable example of this superstar migration was LeBron James’ move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat. There has been much discussion about the impact on the two franchises directly involved in this transaction. However, the indirect impact on the other 28 teams in the league has not been discussed much. This paper attempts to examine this impact by analyzing the effect that home market size has on the superstar externality that Hausman & Leonard discovered in their 1997 paper. A road attendance model is constructed for the 2008-09 to 2011-12 seasons to compare LeBron’s “superstar effect” in Cleveland versus his effect in Miami. An increase of almost 15 percent was discovered in the LeBron superstar variable, suggesting that the move to a bigger market positively affected LeBron’s fan appeal.

Additionally, Atlanta acquired Jeremy Tyler and cash considerations from Golden State in exchange for future draft considerations. Jones, a tenth-year pro, has played in 50 games (15 starts) for Dallas this season, averaging 3.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in 12.7 minutes (.357 FG%, .805 FT%). He spent his first four seasons with Memphis, played one year each with Sacramento and Denver, followed by three in Indiana before the Mavericks acquired him prior to this season. In 561 career games (153 starts), Jones has averaged 5.7 points and 1.8 rebounds in 16.5 minutes (.442 FG%, .338 3FG%, .753 FT%). He’s also participated in 33 playoff games, starting 16, putting up 5.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 15.3 minutes (.441 FG%, .795 FT%). The Trenton, New Jersey native finished his collegiate career playing two seasons at Duke after playing his first two years at Rutgers. Tyler is in his second NBA season, and has tallied 1.1 points in 3.1 minutes in 20 games this year (.375 FG%, .667 FT%) with Golden State. In 42 games (23 starts), he has averaged 3.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 10.2 minutes (.416 FG%, .569 FT%) in his two-year career.
