    SOCIAL & HEALTH CARE OVERVIEW & SCRUTINY COMMITTEE Date of Meeting Thursday, 16 November 2017 Report Subject Older People and Ageing Well Plan Cabinet Member Cabinet Member for Social Services Report Author Chief Officer (Social Services) Type of Report Operational EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Each Local Authority in Wales is required to produce and implement an Ageing Well plan for submission to the Older People’s Commissioner, representing a key contribution to meeting the National Strategy for Older People (2013 – 2023). The Ageing Well in Flintshire plan provides a framework for developing activity that will support older people to take control of their lives so they can maintain their independence and wellbeing and continue to play an active part in their communities. The plan has 5 priority areas: Age-Friendly Communities Falls Prevention Dementia Supportive Communities Opportunities for Learning & Employment Loneliness and Isolation This report provides an overview of the progress made in each of the priority areas and demonstrates the strong links with partners for example community groups, older people’s groups and third sector organisations who play a key part in taking this work forward. RECOMMENDATIONS 1 Members welcome the progress made and consider how they can support the development of Age-Friendly Communities within their community. 2 Members consider how they can ensure that older people’s needs are adequately and appropriately considered at all levels within the local authority, particularly in those areas where the focus is traditionally on young people e.g. employment and training. The instructions explain: - What a General Aviation Report (GAR) is What powers are used to require a report Where aircraft can land and take off When you are asked to submit a General Aviation Report (GAR); When, how and where to send the GAR How to complete the GAR How GAR information is used Custom requirements when travelling to the UK The immigration and documentation requirements to enter the UK What to do if you see something suspicious What is a General Aviation Report (GAR)? General Aviation pilots, operators and owners of aircraft making Common Travel Area2 and international journeys in some circumstances are required to report their expected journey to the Police and/or the Border Force command of the Home Office. Border Force and the Police request that the report is made using a GAR. The GAR helps Border Force and the Police in securing the UK border and preventing crime and terrorism. What powers are used to require a report?     Town and Community Council Events Centenary World War 1 Argoed 11 November: Argoed Community Council will be commemorating the centenary by erecting its first Memorial to the fallen in its Memorial garden Chambers Lane, Mynydd Isa. A service and Eucharist will be at 10.45am followed by the unveiling of the memorial Connah’s Quay and Shotton 11 November following the annual Service of Remembrance which starts at 10 a.m. in the Civic Centre, Connah’s Quay, there will be short service to remember Henry Weale V.C. and unveil the commemorative stones dedicated to him. This will start at approximately 11.30 a.m. at the bridge on the corner of Brooke Road, Shotton. The Royal Welch Fusiliers will also display Henry Weale’s medal. 12 November: Festival of Life and Thank You event to be held at the Connah’s Quay memorial. Poppies will be laid at the memorial, each with the name of 22 people whose names are missing from the memorial. Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn 9 November: Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn Community Council will be holding a WW1 Centenary Event on Friday 9 November 2018 at Gwernaffield Village Hall from 6pm. The evening will include projection of images and photographs, readings, last post, music from the Gwernaffield Silver Band and refreshments for the community Hawarden / Broughton and Bretton 11 November: The Community Councils are jointly preparing for the annual remembrance parade in partnership with the Royal British Legion, local, Churches, cadet, scouts and brownies organisations together with local schools and clubs etc. The service this year will be enhanced by a specialist microphone system in recognition of the number of attendees that increases year on year.

    Department for Work and Pensions SOCIAL FUND COLD WEATHER PAYMENTS FOR GREAT BRITAIN 2010-11 • Cold Weather Payments provide help to people in meeting their additional heating costs during periods of extreme cold. • Payments are made to those most vulnerable to the cold, i.e. older people in receipt of Pension Credit, disabled adults and children, and families with children under 5 who are in receipt of an income related benefit. • Payment is made automatically when the average temperature at the weather station linked to an eligible customer’s postcode has been recorded as, or is forecast to be, 0 degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days. There are 91 weather stations used in the Cold Weather Payment scheme for 2010-11. • The rate of payment is £25 for each seven day period of very cold weather.
