As a lifetime resident of Waterboro the welfare of the land and residents is an issue of utmost importance to me. Because of this, my primary objective is to preserve the unique character and features we have all come to cherish. Fortunately I am not alone in this task. I have elected officials, dedicated committee members, employees and a host of volunteers to work alongside to assist us to thank. They work diligently to ensure that we continuously evolve under financial constraints and collectively provide a wide array of services and recreation opportunities to Waterboro citizens. I am proud that through our skilled staff we are able to offer a variety of services centrally in the Town Hall Annex, a Parks & Recreation department that is continuously developing and organizing activities for young and old to enjoy, a Road Commissioner and work crews keeping the roads safe for travel, a library giving us all enrichment opportunities, recycling and household waste disposal at the Transfer Station and the sacrifice of those who provide services in the Waterboro Fire and Rescue. With the fiscal challenges, created by fluctuating State revenues, our municipal departments have strived to find balance. It has been difficult but together we have worked to submit a budget that is within our financial limitations, and at the same time restricting impact on the services provided to you the citizen. As reflected on your annual tax bill, the chart below reflects the distribution for taxes: 2012 Tax Rate $12.00 How Your Tax Dollars Are Spent Municipal: 16.1 (16%) County: 4.6 (5%) Regional School: 79.3 (79%) We are continually committed to our residents to provide a safe, will managed community and still provide services that our citizens expect at a reasonable cost. Today and for the future this is always our goal. I would like to thank the Board of Selectmen, Department Heads, Staff, Town Committee, Board and Commission members including all those who volunteer to continue to make Waterboro a unique and special place. Respectfully Submitted, Nancy Brandt, Town Administrator 4 Town of Waterboro • Annual Report Dear Citizens of Waterboro, On behalf of the Board of Selectmen, I would like to thank the citizens of Waterboro for allowing us the opportunity to serve you in local government this past year. from the Selectmens’ office: The tasks faced each week sometimes appear daunting, but with the assistance of a fine staff of employees, the job becomes much easier and more rewarding. The Town continues to struggle as we work through the economic challenges confronting our residents. Even as we have, with great effort, continued to keep taxes to a minimum, the Town is firmly on a solid financial footing. We have instituted some accounting “checks and balances” to ensure that mistakes of the past are not repeated as we move forward.
