Dodgers winner at TNT — UEFA Champions League, Group F, Hoffenheim vs. By ANNIE LANE Milwaukee-Chicago Cubs winner (Note: Statcast Edition on ESPN2) Manchester City Breakdown on Facebook NBA BASKETBALL 3 p.m. Dear Annie: Recently, I’ve noticed that a “friend” on Facebook 8 p.m. TNT — UEFA Champions League, Group H, Manchester United has been making very erratic posts, sometimes going on religious, TNT — Preseason, Cleveland at Boston vs. Valencia political and metaphysical rants for hours on end. No one else is 10:30 p.m. commenting on the posts or interacting with him. One person did ask, “Are you OK?” He proceeded to reply 50 times, going off on tangents about his no longer being part of this world, his being diag- nosed as clinically insane, how he changed his name to better fit with the church he’s created for himself and how everyone needs to join. Though we were somewhat friendly about 10 years ago while in At The Movies college, I have no contact information for this guy, and none of our mutual Facebook “friends” still talks with him. Though he hasn’t been threatening self-harm directly, there are some very concerning posts, and he’s mentioned past abuse. It also appears as though he’s moved out of the country, so I can’t call the police for a wellness check. There are recent photos with friends, so I assume other people are aware of what’s happening. So part of me wants to just ignore it all and mind my own business. However, part of me is concerned that I’m passively witnessing a mental breakdown and thinks I should help in some way. What do you think, Annie? -- Witnessing an Online Breakdown Dear Witnessing an Online Breakdown: I think you’re not the only person who’s been nervously watching his troubled behavior, but you may be the only one to do something about it. Start by send- ing a message to one of the friends with whom he’s recently been photographed. Ask whether he or she has seen his posts, is aware that he seems to be experiencing mental illness and is taking any steps to help him. If neither that friend nor others seem to be taking it seri- ously, research some mental health resources in his area and share them with him directly. You can also use Facebook’s reporting tool. Simply click the three dots in the upper-right corner of one of his troubling posts and then select “Give feedback on this post” and “Suicide or self-injury.” Someone from Facebook will reach out and attempt to connect him with help. Of course, if he ever mentions suicide or any intention to harm himself or others, call 911. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (800-273-8255) is also a great resource. I understand your inclination to mind your own business. But you have nothing to lose by speaking up, and you might end up making all the difference. HAPPY BIRTHDAY for Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018: This year you will grow and see life differ- ently. Your goals, interests and relationships will change or adapt. If you are single, the person you choose now might not be the same person you choose in a year. Think of yourself as going shopping and seeing who fits you best. If you are By Steve Kelley and Jeff Parker attached, you and your partner become inordi- DUSTIN nately content with each other. Many people look at you as a couple and think that you act like newlyweds. CANCER is quite emotional but has feelings that are similar to yours. The Stars Show the Kind of Day You’ll Have: 5-Dynamic; 4-Positive; 3-Average; 2-So-so; 1-Difficult ARIES (March 21-April 19) HHH Pressure builds. Your understanding and bright solutions will help improve whatever project you take on. As always, your instincts come out to direct you when chaos or confusion erupts. You could find that a different approach might be better for everyone involved. Tonight: SCARY GARY Mark Buford Head home. TAURUS (April 20-May 20) HHHH You tend to express yourself deliber- ately and with thought. You love brainstorming sessions and get-togethers with your peers. Often, if you share more, you inspire others, and vice versa. Once an issue is resolved, you will want to celebrate. Tonight: Out and about. GEMINI (May 21-June 20) HHH Be aware of the cost of continuing as you have. You have gone overboard in several Crosswords different ways as of late. Before you have to pay the piper, attempt to rein yourself in. Your imagination might cause you a problem in being DOGS of C-KENNEL Mick and Mason Mastroianni realistic. Tonight: Pay bills, then decide. CANCER (June 21-July 22) HHHH Reach out to a loved one. Ask your- self if you have a more effective way of helping pull this person out of the doldrums. Know that a partner could be unusually controlling. If you do not want to deal with this, do not react. Tonight: Share your thoughts with those around you. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22) HHH Read between the lines with others. You also might need to take a break from your present pace. Communication proves to be excit- ing and allows greater give-and-take between you and others. A change of pace in the near B.C. Mastroianni and Hart future seems appropriate. Tonight: Ask a friend for some feedback. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) HHHH A meeting could be provocative and changeable. Once you get past your initial reac- tion, you could be surprised by what is happen- ing around you. Know that others are well- intended. You might be confused by a partner’s or loved one’s reaction. Tonight: Remain opti- mistic. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22) HHH Take charge and do not feel intimidat- ed by a higher-up. Communication flourishes and inspires you with a work-related matter. SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) HHHH Reach out to a loved one or an expert at a distance. Until you speak to a particular person, you could feel as though you have no choice. Use caution with the words you choose. Someone might be pushing you too hard to agree with him or her. Tonight: Treat your mind to music. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) HHHH Deal with others on a one-on-one level. Many ideas and thoughts could float between you. Tonight: Be direct with a loved one. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) HHHH Be aware of how a personal situation could change if given half a chance. You tend to make demands on others. You also put some hard terms on them. If someone walks away as a result, do not be surprised. Being firm does not work with everyone. Tonight: Listen to a request. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) HHHH Listen to news carefully. You have a Cryptoquip lot of ground to cover; if you stay focused, you will be able to do just that. Use care with your finances.
