Ungheria PENTATHLON
Fertility 2021 Full Abstract Book
ORAL PRESENTATIONS 1 ORAL PRESENTATIONS SRF PhD Prize Session SRF.1 The novel use of androgens to optimise detection of the fertile window in giant pandas Kirsten Wilsona, Jella Wautersb, Iain Valentinec, Alan McNeillya, Mick Raed, A. Forbes Howiea, Ruth Andrewe, W. Colin Duncana aMRC CRH, University of Edinburgh; bGhent University, Belgium; Pairi Daiza Foundation, Belgium; Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, Germany; cZoocraft; dEdinburgh Napier University; eBHF CVS, University of Edinburgh Background: Giant pandas are seasonally monoestrus. In Spring, estrogens increase for 1-2 weeks before a peak is reached, followed by 24-48 hours of fertility. Accurately monitoring the hormone profile is therefore vital for prediction and detection of this fertile window to facilitate insemination in a captive breeding programme. Aim: To consider biomarkers for advanced warning of estrus and the accurate timing of insemination. Methods: Urine samples from three females covering 9 breeding cycles, from 40 days before estrus until 10 days after estrus, were assayed for estrone-3-glucuronide (E1G) and progesterone (P4) by Arbor Assays ELISAs, for testosterone (T) and DHEA by validated in-house ELISAs, and for luteinising hormone (LH) by bioassay. Hormone concentrations were corrected against urinary specific gravity (USpG). Results: E1G increased for 11.4 days (range 9-14) before peaking, with the start of the rise detected retrospectively. Prospectively, using current methods, it starts when E1G concentrations become higher than P4 (9.6 days, range 7- 11). Alternatively, E1G becoming higher than T gives 4-days advanced warning of impending estrus (12.7 days, range 9-17). LH was analysed as a marker of peak fertility to time insemination. -

Market Regional Report
Market Regional Report East Mediterranean and Black Sea WP 1 : Market Observation 1 Table of Contents Introduction 3 1. Ports 14 2. New Services in the Region 39 3. Other Existing Services 41 4. Projects 45 5. Direct Feedback 48 6. Relevant News Items 55 7. Other Supporting Statistical Data 70 2 Introduction Eurostat gives a snapshot of the importance and growth of the East Med / Black Sea Region with respect to shortsea shipping. Focusing on 2011 and 2012, the major conclusions were as follows:‐ The preponderance of short sea shipping of goods over the other seaborne transport (deep sea shipping) was particularly pronounced (more than 80 %) in Bulgaria, Denmark, Ireland, Greece, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Finland and Sweden, as well as in the acceding state of Croatia. Geographical considerations may partly explain this predominance of short sea shipping. A large volume of feeder services may also explain the high degree of short sea shipping transport in countries which function as transhipment points, such as Malta. In contrast, the share of short sea shipping is lower than 60% in countries with major ports concentrating on intercontinental trade (such as Belgium, Germany, Spain, Estonia, the Netherlands, Portugal and Slovenia). Short sea shipping of goods between main EU‐27 ports and ports located in the Mediterranean was 546 million tonnes in 2011. This accounts for about 28% of the total short sea shipping tonnages declared by the main EU‐27 ports. Short sea shipping with the North Sea and the Baltic Sea followed, with 525 and 420 million tonnes, respectively (27% and 21% of the total). -

It explores Britain’s motives for seeking increased influence in the country and traces the most significant British attempts to shape Bulgarian politics. It examines British strategic decisions and diplomatic activities in Bulgaria against the background of the evolving domestic political situation and of Soviet objectives in the Balkans. Evidence from British archives is tested against recently released Bulgarian and Russian sources. The study clarifies problems central to the interpretation of post-war Bulgarian developments and addresses the question of British attitudes to the whole of Eastern Europe. -
