Nov. 30 at Mat Town Invitational 2nd/10 teams The opening round of the national championships begins at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 20 Dec. 6-7 at Las Vegas Invitational 6th/ 45 teams Dec. 13 at Portland State W, 46-3 with the championship finals slated for a 2:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at Oregon State W, 30-15 start on Saturday, March 22. The finals will be aired Dec. 14 at Oregon W, 30-3 on ESPN at 6 p.m. All times are central. Wright (157) At 197 pounds, Ruiz was upset by second-seeded Muhammed Lawal of Oklahoma State, 7- Huskers By Class: Eight juniors, seven sophomores, 13 4. Lawal jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and was able to with withstand Ruiz’s attempts at freshmen takedowns to score the victory. Huskers By State: (16 total represented): Sophomore Travis Shufelt’s bid for his first conference championship at 149 pounds fell just Nebraska (7), Kansas (3), Missouri (3), South Dakota (3), short as he was defeated by top-seeded Jerrod Sanders of Oklahoma State, 7-5. Wrestler Wins Date Illinois was ranked fourth when the Huskers posted a 20-17 win over the Illini on Jan. 11 at the Mitch Manstedt 10 12/13-1/10 Virginia Duals. The win over the Illini marked the first time since 1998-99 that the Husker Matt Murray 9 12/13-1/10 wrestling team beat a team ranked in the nation’s top five. In 1998-99, NU defeated fourth-ranked Joey Malia 8 12/13-1/4 Oklahoma, 18-17, in Norman. The win also was Mark Manning’s first win over a top-five ranked Jacob Klein 8 12/13-1/4 opponent while at NU. He has won 12 of 32 matches against ranked teams at NU. Jason Powell 8 1/7-1/31 The win over Illinois also marked the first time since 2000-01 that NU has posted more than Jason Powell 7 12/13-1/4 one win over a ranked opponent in a season.
