INVESTIGATION OF POLITICAL FUNDRAISING IMPROPRIETIES AND POSSIBLE VIOLATIONS OF LAW NOVEMBER 5, 1998.ÐCommitted to the Committee of the Whole House on the State of the Union and ordered to be printed Mr. BURTON, from the Committee on Government Reform and Oversight, submitted the following SIXTH REPORT together with ADDITIONAL AND MINORITY VIEWS On October 8, 1998, the Committee on Government Reform and Oversight approved and adopted a report entitled, ``Investigation of Political Fundraising Improprieties and Possible Violations of Law.'' The chairman was directed to transmit a copy to the Speaker of the House. (1183) CHAPTER IV, PART A UNPRECEDENTED INFUSION OF FOREIGN MONEY INTO THE AMERICAN POLITICAL SYSTEM: THE RIADY FAMILY AND JOHN HUANG: ACCESS AND INFLUENCE WITH THE CLINTON WHITE HOUSE (1185) THE RIADY FAMILY AND JOHN HUANG: ACCESS AND INFLUENCE WITH THE CLINTON WHITE HOUSE INTRODUCTION John Huang is the first individual to be associated with cam- paign finance improprieties in the 1996 elections. The scandal was brought to the public's attention in a September 1996 Los Angeles Times article detailing the first known illegal contribution to the DNC, and naming John Huang as the fundraiser involved.1 Soon thereafter, other questionable DNC contributions came to light, also related to Huang.2 As more information on possible illegal or inappropriate contributions to the DNC was reported, the media re- viewed Huang's background and found ties to the Riady family of Indonesia and President Clinton.3 The Riadys are foreign nationals residing in Indonesia, neverthe- less, they were active participants in the 1992 and 1996 campaigns of President Clinton. The family's facilitator for contributions as well as political matters was John Huang, a former senior execu- tive with the Lippo Group. The Riadys had access to the highest levels of the U.S. Government, including the President and his Cabinet. James and Aileen Riady, well known to the President, DNC and White House staff as foreign nationals, attended many exclusive

    “FAKE NEWS!”: President Trump’s Campaign Against the Media on @realdonaldtrump and Reactions To It on Twitter A PEORIA Project White Paper Michael Cornfield GWU Graduate School of Political Management [email protected] April 10, 2019 This report was made possible by a generous grant from William Madway. SUMMARY: This white paper examines President Trump’s campaign to fan distrust of the news media (Fox News excepted) through his tweeting of the phrase “Fake News (Media).” The report identifies and illustrates eight delegitimation techniques found in the twenty-five most retweeted Trump tweets containing that phrase between January 1, 2017 and August 31, 2018. The report also looks at direct responses and public reactions to those tweets, as found respectively on the comment thread at @realdonaldtrump and in random samples (N = 2500) of US computer-based tweets containing the term on the days in that time period of his most retweeted “Fake News” tweets. Along with the high percentage of retweets built into this search, the sample exhibits techniques and patterns of response which are identified and illustrated. The main findings: ● The term “fake news” emerged in public usage in October 2016 to describe hoaxes, rumors, and false alarms, primarily in connection with the Trump-Clinton presidential contest and its electoral result. ● President-elect Trump adopted the term, intensified it into “Fake News,” and directed it at “Fake News Media” starting in December 2016-January 2017. 1 ● Subsequently, the term has been used on Twitter largely in relation to Trump tweets that deploy it. In other words, “Fake News” rarely appears on Twitter referring to something other than what Trump is tweeting about.

I am looking for all materials kept by the FBI pertaining to the years in which Mr. Tien began serving as chancellor in 1990 through his death in 2002. During these years, Mr. Tien maintained active relationships with the governments and nationals of both Taiwan and China. Today’s ultimate showman and on-again, off-again presidential candidate Donald Trump invited the Republican presidential primary contenders to a debate he planned to moderate and broadcast over the Christmas holidays. One of a record 30 such debates and forums held or scheduled between May 2011 and March 2012, this, more than any of the previous debates, had the potential to be an embarrassing debacle. Trump “could do a lot of damage to somebody,” said Karl Rove, the architect of President George W. Bush’s 2000 and 2004 campaigns, in an interview with Greta Van Susteren of Fox News. “And I suspect it’s not going to be to the candidate that he’s leaning towards.
