Melville with a little less success on field than we are accustomed to, however there were many achievements to be very proud of. Congratulations to the Womens A Grade , T/20 Winners this season, also our Colts with a huge result winning the competition for the First time in nearly twenty years. A great effort from a young team and great coaching from Liam Duffield. 2nd Grade, 4th Grade and both Women’s teams also Simon accepting Voges shirt from Christina played in finals. A big achievement in itself. Matthews Again Coaching continued to be a focus of the club with Brad Thompson, Jenny Wallace, Greg Turner and Junior Coaches. A new initiative from Australian Cricketers Association provided Drew Porter and Luke Towers the opportunity to bring specialist coaching to the Club. A very successful program. This season saw a strong Club atmosphere, more players becoming involved in running the Club at all levels, especially with Management Committee and Social functions. Melville obviously has a strong playing and social culture and is a good place to play cricket. Changes were made to the traditional President’s Medal. Firstly a name change, now called the Adam Voges Medal, in recognition of all Adam has achieved and the extremely high regard in which he is held by everyone at the Melville Club. To complement the Men’s and Women’s awards a new category was introduced for Junior best player. The Adam Voges Medal winner for best Men’s player in the Club was won by Tom Smith. Niamh Walsh took out the Women’s medal and Kiale O’Brien became the first winner of the Junior Adam Voges Medal. Curator Chris Lovelock continues to impress with his work ethic and approachable nature. His enthusiasm is obvious and is something recognised by everyone at Melville. With outside expert advice and extra work on the wickets in the off season we are gradually moving back towards a goal of having some of the best wickets in the competition. Tom Scollay again looked after Club finances in a tough year for the Club. We have previously relied on Tompkins Park for a large part of our income and while this is still important a decline in the Commercial world has led to smaller dividends and the need to find other sources of income. A small increase in WACA and Cricket Australia grants has helped but the main improvement came when Joe Mahoney took on the Sponsorship manager role and has doubled our income from this source. Members need to ensure sponsors receive value for their input. Many thanks to all our Sponsors for their assistance, a number of whom attend matches and social functions and have become part of our Club. The City of Melville plans to restructure Tompkins Park appear to have stalled and there has been no information on this for many months. The Committee will update members when and if anything happens. Our Canteen again finished with a small profit, exactly as planned. Thanks to all who helped here. This is a difficult job and hard to see where our canteen is heading with new volunteers needed and an ageing room to work from. 5 At the time of writing we are collating information for our Yearbook. In line with modern thinking it will be available on-line but there should still be a few printed copies available. Congratulations to the many players selected to play at higher levels.
