I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can” -Babe Ruth 4 Abstract Like no other athlete before or since, Babe Ruth’s popularity has endured long after his playing days ended. His name has entered the popular lexicon, where “Ruthian” is a synonym for a superhuman feat, and other greats are referred to as the “Babe Ruth” of their field. Ruth’s name has even been attached to modern players, such as Shohei Ohtani, the Angels rookie known as the “Japanese Babe Ruth”. Ruth’s on field records and off-field antics have entered the realm of legend, and as a result, Ruth is often looked at as a sort of folk-hero. This thesis explains why Ruth is seen this way, and what forces led to the creation of the mythic figure surrounding the man.

Daley, Mayor Department of Planning and Development Alicia Mazur Berg, Commissioner Cover: An aerial view of Wrigley Field. Above: Wrigley Field is located in the Lake View community area on Chicago’s North Side. The Commission on Chicago Landmarks, whose nine members are appointed by the Mayor, was established in 1968 by city ordinance. The Commission is responsible for recommending to the City Council which individual buildings, sites, objects, or districts should be designated as Chicago Landmarks, which protects them by law. The landmark designation process begins with a staff study and a preliminary summary of information related to the potential designation criteria. The next step is a preliminary vote by the land- marks commission as to whether the proposed landmark is worthy of consideration. This vote not only initiates the formal designation process, but it places the review of city permits for the property under the jurisdiction of the Commission until a final landmark recommendation is acted on by the City Council. This Landmark Designation Report is subject to possible revision and amendment during the designation process. Barbara Fornalik goodshepherdepiscopal.org Deacon September 2016 Dear Friends in Christ: September brings back our regular schedule of activities and another edition of our wonderful newsletter. Many thanks to Laura and Richard for their exceptional efforts in producing this publication. A few days ago I passed a significant milestone with you all and in a couple of weeks I will enter a new decade. A dear friend passed on a lovely email from an unknown author listing the things that they had learned as they grew older. It was filled with wisdom and I wanted to share just a few items with everyone. These are things I have learned as well, in addition to things I am currently learning, and wisdom I hope to attain someday. Enjoy. Things that I have learned: That being kind is more important than being right. That I can always pray for someone when I don’t have the strength to help in any other way. That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand. That love, not time, heals all wounds. That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.

  • 1962 Minnesota Twins Media Guide
MINNESOTA TWINS METROPOLITAN STADIUM - BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA /eepreieniin the AMERICAN LEAGUE __flfl I/ic Upper l?ic/we1 The Name... The name of this baseball club is Minnesota Twins. It is unique, as the only major league baseball team named after a state instead of a city. The reason unlike all other teams, this one represents more than one city. It, in fact, represents a state and a region, Minnesota and the Upper Midwest, in the American League. A survey last year drama- tized the vastness of the Minnesota Twins market with the revelation that up to 47 per cent of the fans at weekend games came from beyond the metropolitan area surrounding the stadium. The nickname, Twins, is in honor of the two largest cities in the Upper Midwest, the Twin Cities of Minne- apolis and St. Paul. The Place... The home stadium of the Twins is Metropolitan Stadium, located in Bloomington, the fourth largest city in the state of Minnesota. Bloomington's popu- lation is in excess of 50,000. Bloomington is in Hen- nepin County and the stadium is approximately 10 miles from the hearts of Minneapolis (Hennepin County) and St. Paul (Ramsey County). Bloomington has no common boundary with either of the Twin Cities. Club Records Because of the transfer of the old Washington Senators to Minnesota in October, 1960, and the creation of a completely new franchise in the Na- tion's Capital, there has been some confusion over the listing of All-Time Club records. In this booklet, All-Time Club records include those of the Wash- ington American League Baseball Club from 1901 through 1960, and those of the 1961 Minnesota Twins, a continuation of the Washington American League Baseball Club.

The pattern for winning boll in St. Paul was set early, in the first year of minor league ball, in fact.
